Replying to My opinion piece on extreme sports
People believe that extreme sports are very dangerous and pose unnecessary risks. It is thought that many people die every year due to extreme sports. I believe that extreme sports aren’t unacceptably dangerous as long as the person doing it is well prepared and has the proper training.
Preparation can make all the difference when it comes to extreme sports. Many of the deaths that occur due to extreme sports are to people without proper equipment and preparation. For example before many professionals go heli skiing the check the conditions and dangers such as the chance of and avalanche. Also when they go they carry along proper equipment such as a two way radio and a ……… so even if an avalanche does occur their chances of survival are greatly increased. In almost every extreme sport there is equipment that could save many lives yet some people are to ignorant or lazy to get the proper safety info and purchase this equipment that may one day save their life. Also some people think that because they are really good and all that, that all this safety stuff does not apply to them but from what I have seen even the very best get into these kind of situations where a simple tool could save their life.
When you are doing extreme sports the amount of skill and training you have obviously reduces the risk of fatal injury. I believe that a lot of the deaths are caused by lack of training in some people attempting a sport. So when some one with improper training dies attempting something way above their skill level it makes the sport look dangerous when actually some people are just too ……… to get the proper training ruining the sport for all the people who know how to do it. In my opinion if your not going to get the proper training don’t do the sport many deaths could be prevented and it wont give the sport a bad name (to dangerous and poses an unacceptable risk). Yes I will admit that even people with proper training and equipment do die but that is a lot less then people say. I think the majority of the deaths are easily preventable. (Getting equipment and training) An example is the x-games; it is basically 100% extreme sports. Have you ever seen anyone die in these games? It is because these people have been properly trained and know what they are doing. Of coarse there are injuries, but honestly what sport nowadays doesn’t have injuries.
So in conclusion many of the deaths that occur in extreme sports are do to the person’s ignorance rather then the sport itself. I think extreme sports are acceptable and safe as long as the person is well prepared and trained.
Feel free to tell me any ideas you might have to add and it would be nice if someone could help me come up with a third supporting paragraph thanks
