It seems like whenever i go to try to throw a 270 off, i slip and just fall off. It's like I'm having trouble gripping the rail with my skis and starting to spin. Any ideas?
your thinking about it too much, I used to have the same problem. Just pull your feet up and twist your body, it will come around. You have to be good enough at rails to where you can slide it without thinking to much about staying, so you can focus on the 270.
Well for backside........ Just when your about half way through the rail and your sure that your locked on look towards the begginign of the rail where you got on pop then look at the landing over your shoulder then just let your hips and your skis follow
i made a pair of summer skis out of old dynastar 4x4's and learned off a 3" diameter pvc pipe. im having no porblem with them but i'm nowhere close to a 270 on
just consintrate on locking on the rail in the middle of your skis so u can pop off and spin. just bend your knees and then pop off when u feel that you are locked on
im not that good at them either, but this is how i do it. if your not ballenced on the rail then dont even try it, you have to be thinking about the 270 like the whole time your on the rail. if you get on rightside since how you turn to get on the rail is the opposite of how you are gonna 270 off, you cant still be rotating at all when you are ready to spin off. then when you get on the rail have your arms and body slightly twisted toward the direction your gonna spin, then at about the end of the rail, i try to pop alittle harder off with my front foot, and while your poping spin your whole body alittle more but not all the way, then right after you pop off try to spin your whole body, especially try to spin with your hips, cause for me i sometimes get only my upper body twisted and my legs are behind, then tuck your legs up and hope you spun enough.
so its all about pretty much starting your rotation one you get on the rail.
and it also helps to bring your back arm across your body and tuck your arms in.
for blindside 270s out (assuming right foot forward) first get ur switch out reg out down. so you can come up and say im comin out reg, or im comin out sw and do it with ease. with blindsides act like ur gonna come off switch so close ur shoulders to the rail look at the end of the rail till ur about 1-2 ft away from the end, now stop lookin at the end and look to the left once you feel you have started to move on the rail jump and keep lookin for ur landing when you see it stare at it and youll land it first try. these are much easier but harder if you havent grasped the concept of blindside (being able to stop lookin at the end of the rail and still slide it comfortably for a bit which is important for sw ups and 270s out and such) as for pretzel 270s out these are easier because you can look at the end of the rail the whole time and see ur landing the whole time. for these get on reg and act like ur comin out reg (dont close ur shoulders to the rail completly) when you get the the end of the rail you can start to move ur skis on the rail like rotate ur downhill ski so its no longer ontop of the rail but on the rails side then start spinnin on the rail and jump and finish it. its kinda hard to explain but ur skis arent ontop of the rail for a half second which helps get ur spin goin it the other direction. if you can spin 5s and 3s blindsides will be easier cause to spin those you will have had to overcome blindside fears. otherwise pretzel 270s will be easier and more comfy. really just go out there and keep tryin itll come youll be frusturated for a loing time but itll come eventually, thats how it worked for me at least
here is the real way to do it aside form what any of these fuckers will tell you. tight before you slide off the rail rotate your hips so that they are parrelel to the rail. then as your skis start to follow your hips let your edge catch and it will shoot you off the rail and you will do a 270
