Ok, so FUCK. I've been living in fernie for over 2 months now WAITING AND WAITING to be able to work and for the snow to fall. I've spent hundreds, i'm really in debt just to still be here, and now that the hill is FINALLY open, i should be happy right? wrong. As of today my staff pass and the staff passes of 600 other employees of the mountain are invalid. Yup. The motherfuckers in management decided that due to the lack of snow on the mountain, only guests get to ride, and the staff get banned from the mountain 'until further notice'. They gave us TWO fucking days to ride, and then that's it until probably after new years. HOW FUCKING GAY IS THAT?We suffered through the rain and shitty weather, maxed out our credit cards just to eat, most of us have to borrow money from our parents or take out loans JUST TO MAKE FUCKING RENT...and now they go and make it THAT MUCH WORSE by not even letting their own staff ride. FUCK FERNIE.
Fucking assholes. It had better damn well snow before my days off next week and they had better damn well lift that ban, or there's gonna be a coup d'etat on that mountain.

Any thoughts on what we could do to fight this policy without getting fired?
The best idea i could come up with was round up more then 50 staff members and go stand in line together, and refuse to leave the line until the ban is lifted. That would cause some havoc, and they couldn't fire all of us.
Anything we do we'd need to be backed by more staff then they could fire.

yah you need to get all your staff together in agreement that you guys are being screwed over if you really want to do anything about it.
but think about it, if its all the staff thats being punished by this, then why don't the lifties (staff) let anyone who has an 'invalid' staff pass up the mountain anyways.

you have to get them to realize that none of you have enough money to buy a seasons pass now. The actual cost for an extra 50 people to ski for a year is very minimal, the lifts will be running with or without you guys! Fernie won't be loosing money if you keep your passes. Get a petition together saying that each person that signs it does not have enough money to buy a seasons pass and will not be riding at fernie this year and the years to come. (make sure none of the people on the list buy a pass!) and say that taking away our passes will actually decrease revenue in the long run.

STRIKE!!!! STRIKE!!!! there needs to be some sort of union that ski field employees can join to be protected from unfairness like this.
99% of ski field employees are there cause the love to ski/ride not because they like freezing their ass off when its -20F and 50 mph winds!!! If you can't ride you can't work!!!

Originally I was thinking strike, but flooding the lift lines sounds like a good idea, too. Get as many people as you can together and just line up there... maybe clog the line, too, so noone can get on the lift until you do...

Ok, we've had a sorta happy ending...so far. The rental staff got the mountain manager up to the rental shop and we all expressed our concerns and made some good points, and he was cool enough to arrange a second meeting with the management. They decided to let the staff ride...for now. They'll re-evaluate the situation on after christmas...when they might ban us again if it doesn't snow. The reason they had to ban us is because there's only one rideable lift open right now, and one lift that they use to download people. If they have 1500 people on the mountain it would take 5 hours to get them all down.
Anyways, going on a suggestion of mine, to ease the congestion at the white pass chair, next week they'll bring all the rails and set them up on a run (milky way) for people to hike.
Here's hoping for the forcasted christmas day dump.
