Spin to win has moved from jumps to rails

You can't logon to ns these days without someone telling you that boner style 1260s aren't where its at, and I totally agree. However, it seems like the same people who hate lame looking hucks off jumps love it when lame looking hucks are done onto, during or off of rails. Every rail jam I've been to all year has been determined by how many degrees were spun on and off the rail, and while I think 360 switch ups are indeed sick, there needs to be more room for innovation. Spinning to win is lame, whether in a big air or a rail jam.

personally, i think the steeze-factor should overrule the spin-factor, even though a higher spin is definately more difficult to do. so basically, if i saw a super smooth slide with a 270 out, i'd take that over an ugly, flaily, 270 on 270 out any day.

yea man i agree it sucks. im just voicing my opinion. the judging now sucks and no room for creativity if you want to win. i dont know if theres anything short of holding a gun to peoples head to change their ways, which obviously insnt the solution. and you forgot butters which is like my favorite thing ever.

best thing i have ever read on this site.
at least in context.
why do we care how far the pros progress?
why do we care whats big in comps?
comps are for money.
they are for brand visibility.
not progressing the sport.
every time you click into your skis you are progressing the sport.
but thats not the point... the point is that its not even that worthwhile to progress until you are at the level that you have learned every trick.
going out there and having fun will, if you are a pro, most likely have more of an impact than entering a comp.
example: guys liked to ride backwards, so they made a twin tip ski.
that didnt come from a comp.
so fuck you guys for caring about comps. its not about spectators. its about money for the skiier and the companies involved.
when skiing movies start fcusing and douche bag spins all over rails then you can start complaining.

since i know this is about the turkey rail jam, and in particular me, ill let you, (the one whoe posted this thread) know something.. i did a fuck of a lot more then 360 sw up 270 out, first trick i did was 360 sw up got it first try
then 360 sw up 270 out got it first try
then i nose pressed it
270 on sw up 270 out.
1 foot jib on the part that keeps your edge from catchin the the begginning, to a slow reg grind the rest of the way
blindside 270 out
270 out 270 out
and a more reg smooth grinds, i like to spin onto and off rails i see it as progression, and if your totally in control of your spin why not do it?

As much as I agree that too many spins on a rail kind of make it look retarded, but Ahmet killed the 360 switch up 270 out, don't think it could be done any better. So quit the hating.

so what if people can't do multiple switch ups? they can still think they're gay. i'll bet you would call a 1440 on a 40 foot jump gay, and i'd be willing to bet you can't do one.

if your sayin that multiple switch ups are gay, your calling some of the best gay, Zach Davison, 4 switch ups, thats rediculous, it made me laugh i thought it was so great, and ahmets 360 switch up was real sick, same with pats.

i agree that people shouldn't huck on or off rails but also that spins onto rails look cool
ex. jon unatty 270 disaster at the x gamse was the smoothest thing ever so spinning can be good

I said it once i'll say it again. I think guys are afraid of loosing due to poor judging. Guys like jon get royally fucked every year. "style" is so subjective to criticism that guys know they can win with difficulty... because everyone knows a 270-on-270-off is harder than a regular railslide. Jon has incredible style (to some people), but people tear him appart sometimes because of difficulty. I remember they were comparing his pipe run at X to simon's. Simon was 20+ feet out doing tricks while jon was only 14-15.

I think the judges and the culture will have to catch up to what is happening in skiing.
Of course competitions will always have to consider the difficulty and the technical apects of tricks, but the style, control, and visual pleasure one has will become more and more important.
At a rail jam a few weeks ago one skiier beat me, with a 450 on- switch up-270 off on a C box, but i beat someone with my 270 on- steezed out- 270 off who pulled like 3 switch ups between 270s.
There is a balance. Different comps will have different wieghts on specific traits, and so will judges. So instead of a battle between tech and steeze, we will see a perfecting of the balance between technical aspects and steeze in all areas of skiing.

This totally isn't about the turkey rail jam, it's about every rail jam. Also, butterlicious check out the "whos the best am" thread a while back where I say that Ahmet and Giray are the best ams, then tell me I think you suck.

im sorry it just really seemed, like it since i just posted the video of the jame and we were doing some spinny maneuvers.. the thing is i do knwo what your saying, i hate 450 on downkinks because i see them everywhere, but when you are in perfect control i think spinning on rails is super sick

i think competition holds back progression in a few aspects. you gotta spin to win for the judge. you can throw steeze. ahmets 360sw up was FUCKIN STEEZY! it def wasnt a hucked trick. but anyway i think any new rail trick is dope as long as youw ork on style. itll obviously take a while so give them leeway before calling it gay.

unless its candide doing a cork 810 (I think its 810) onto a rail that should win cuz its absolutally amazing, but I think if you get on regs then spin opposite side switch up like not the way you got on and then a bilndside 270 out I thinkn it was like one of the peters but they did that in the 11th hour trailer. Also presses!
