Jump sizes

reading the thread about the x-games seems a lot of people out there are calling a 60 foot jump small. i was at lake louise for two months at the start of this year where the biggest jump was a supposed 60 footer on the pro line, and i gotta tell ya, i saw fuck all people hit it the whole time i was there, and the standard in that park isnt too shabby.

I don't have the balls to hit the big jumps, I'm happy with the 30-50 footers, 60 if I'm feeling lucky. I like cliffs more!

biggest i've hit was 40. i love how people blow themselves up so much in here. Like the guy who said "wow" about the kid lking to throw spins on like 20 ft tables.

And another thing, people over estimate jumps sooooooooooooo much its ridiculous. i hear people talk about hitting the 60 footer in our park.. and the biggest hit we had on the day was like 35 ft MAX.

Mount Snow's Hucker jump from last year was perfect. It was around 60 but was super lofty. Their 75-80 fter scares me and put me in the hospital last year

i hit the money booter at mammoth last season, reckon it was about 65ft (10ft step down), biggest i've hit. I'd say that's plenty big for a comp, past that guys aren't going to throw down tech tricks because the risk of injury starts getting very real.

And yes, I totally agree that people way overestimate jump size.

65 is only 5 more feet from 60 so if you hit 60 then you'd better hit 65 and 40 is a lot smaller than you think

idk little jumps are fun but it your gonna throw anything up wards of a 5 slow and steezy i think you need at least like 55+. plus bigger jumps are bigger fun =)

50-60 feet is an average size of a "good jump" at any mountain, so it would be expected that the Xgames would have bigger than average sized jumps

think about this... on a baseball field homeplate to the pitchers mound is 60ft
6in. Home to first base is 90ft, standing on a field the distance seems easily doable. Size of a jump depends ALOT on what kind of jump it is and especially on the trajectory of the takeoff.

someone better at estimating distance can tell you how long it is, but the jump at the bottom of the Bear mtn park at killington, and the big-air venue jumps are the biggest i've hit.

I'm going to have to agree with this one. When you talk to people who don't ski, they hear 40 feet and they're like that unbelievable, because people overestimate what 40 ft is. On here, 40 doesn't sounds that big, but that's because people on here overestimate jump length.

Think about this, mammoth's main park's (one of the biggest public park made, behind June) biggest hits (the one that only a few are hitting) are 60-70. Yeah they'll make an 80footer now and then. That means if you're hitting just the big jumps in the main park your doing 50ft, and those things are pretty freaking big, I don't care who you are. No offense guys, but if you're skiing a smaller mtn on the east coast, chances are you've never seen a 50ft plus jump. Mountains aren't going to move that much snow for 1 jump that only a few can hit.

Let me put a discloser on this, I'm now eyeballing distance expert, so if anyone knows the exact lengths of some of the mammoth jumps fill me in.

My max hit is a 50 footer. I admit, I was too scared to spin. But straight airing I had no problem pulling a stylish tail. I would go bigger, maybe a 60 footer.

biggest i've hit is 75 footer at squaw, hand a massive lip that day so u got tons of air time. very fun. my fave size jumps tho for spins and wat not is probly about 45-55

Well kiddies here at mammoth (once we get snow) we have an eighty footer EVERYDAY there is no reason why they have to put little jumps in a big comp

yeah you just proved me right... if you over estimate something, that means that the jump is smaller than you think and if you underestimate something, it means that the jump is bigger than you think so you agreed with that other person ,but then just proved me right.

"people who don't ski" Yes I do agree with you that most people think 40ft is way bigger than it is. But I also said, and believe that people on this site, in the park scene tend to overestimate jump length.

Was that the big one at Big Sky? I threw some pretty mean spread eagles over that last year, it was pretty huge. Just going off a jump and seeing that you're level with the people on the chairlift makes you think.

yhea I agree with that, the people in the chairlift must think even more haha. The same thing goes for when you jump higher than the trees, enough to see the parking lot, that freaks me out.

I would say that a 60 foot hit at the end of a slopestyle run is big, Ive hit 60s before (im not overestimating either the hill measured it at 55 from midlle of the take off to middle landing, and 75 from middle of the take to far right landing) and if i had to hit one of those after throwin done my hardest tricks all run i would deff find it huge
