please, NO theyre not the same band, not even close, not even the same genre.
TPS consists of Ben Gibbard (also singer of Death Cab For Cutie) and Jimmy Tamborello (aka Dntel and member of the group Figurine), and plays Indie/electro rock. They only made one album, with tamborello making the beats and gibbard singing over it.
Iron and Wine is the singer/songwriter Samuel Beam's alias, he plays this indie/lo-fi rock, its awesome btw, if you havent heard of him, pick it up!
the only thing these people have in common is the song Such Great Heights, originally written by Ben Gibbard, later covered by Beam.
^what are you talking about? very wrong, BUT Ben Gibbard is the singer in DCFC, therefore he is the link between TPS and DFCF. TPS was Gibbard's and Tamborello's project, it was named the postal service because Tamborello sent the beats to Gibbard over mail.
fyi, if you're looking fo rinfo on music/bands like that check out www.allmusic.com, it tells you tons of stuff about every artist in the universe and even has samples of almost everything
how is that very wrong? you take away the band from dcfc and u get ben, then you add the beats from the mac and u get the postal service, sry i didnt go into great detail
just because two bands are different genres dosn't mean they can't be the same band with a name change (i would consider the most likly reason for a name change a change of genre), having said that, in this case they are different.
They are different because they have such a different sound. Yeah the voice is the same but the way he sings in each band is totally different. The lyrics have different styles too. The postal service seems to have this slightly glossy layer overtop of it and Death Cab has a more longing kind of sound. Anyways thats my attempt at trying to put it to words. They are my #1 (DCFC) and 2 bands respectively.
Word is, Postal Service new album probably in about 2007.
TPS is great I am just sick of seeing edits to Such Great Heights. It was in RobotFood it's a good edit, it's the only edit. Please refrain from using such great heights to edit anything else. Thank You.
