skis420 decided to be a dick and lecture me on avalanches so I decided everyone should read it. but you have to read it from bottom to top for it to make sense, and this guy is 22 years old.
you know what. I ride back country almost 4 days a week and I don't ride at resorts. I know how to use my gear and how to prevent alot of avalanche danger by digging pits and checking the layers, ruschblock tests, and just llooking at clue on the slope. And as long as I am in the back country I will not be concerned with what can happen to me outside my control there is no point to that. My point is that my dad is an ER Doctor and I spent alot of years in a montana hospital and I have seen probbly 5 - 8 peopl e with broken backs that have been in avalanches and were dug up in time by their friends, one that even broke his femur and his back, and was 7 feet deep. There is always a better chance with a beacon. Now leave me alone/

ya 50% die from trama...then trying to dig him up in less than 15 minutes would be near impossible as well...youre missing the point here, avalanche gear wont save you only your mind(which in your case youre as good as dead)

I don't know 50% of avalanceh facts? Because I think that a beacon coul dhave saved him?

You dont know your stats, and 83% of people who dont know at least 50% of avalanche facts have a 99% chance of dieing in the backcountry. Ya beater.

what did utskier just say....50% of avy deaths are from trama...he died of a broken neck...it was unlikely gear would have saved him..need I go on or do you give up?

ya and I know plenty too...but when you break your back in an avalanche then continue to fall 1000 feet getting knocked around then have people rip you out of a whole and carry you down a mountain...guess what asshat, theres a good chance you just severed your spinal cord. Breaking your back falling and doing it in an avalanche are two VERY different things. how do you not know this?>

Thats besides the point...had his buddy been able to dig him out in 15 minutes(doubtful as it took 8 of them probably 10 minutes to do it) and had he not suffered from any serious injuries after falling 1000 feet through trees and rocks in an early season snow pack he still only had a 70% chance of living if his buddy got him out in under 15 minutes.(doubtful) You need to get your shit straight bro....Go load a ten bullet revolver with 3 bullets you still think you have good odds of surviving pulling the trigger?

it never said he had a broken neck, what is with you and your friend do you just hate everyone? What I said is true.
skis420 --> GotamaBCshred...*
Thanks so have I. The fact is youre a moron if you think the chances of ever surviving an avalanche are "good". Plus the dude in this case had clear signs of a broken neck. Youre wrong buddy..sorry

I do too, your real cool and all but I have dealt with avalanches before and people getting buried. I've also been around 3 or 4 occasions just like this.

and again did you miss the part where 8 of them dug furiously and they were all exhausted??? So you think one dude is going to be able to locate and dig up a body from under 6 feet of snow in under 15 minutes? Not many people can do that man. He did not have good odds at all, sorry but youre wrong. Oh ps I have my avy 2 certs done. I doubt you do.

haha actually i forget the exact statistic but the chances of dieing from trama were somewhere around 30%. Those are pretty high odds dude...this is youre life were talking about, get serious.

Your friend is an Idiot and he has no credablilty anyway. Most times people don't die really from broken necks, you would be amazed

I said even if his buddies had found him there is a good chance he wouldnt have survived. Youre right the odds are about 20% chance of dieing after 15 minutes. You think a 1 in 5 chance of dieing is good odds?? You must be a fucking moron. oh ya and also learn to read the story, they said he had bruising on his neck...most likely from a broken neck. And also there were like 10 people digging him out and did you hear how hard it was???? you think his buddy could have dug him out in under 10 minutes? YOU dont know shit man
