What is so core?

A question came to my mind, what is sooo core about some stuff..

For example, what is core in a company like armada, that get their skis made by Elan? I mean, they do not even make their own skis... All they do is tell them the measurments, and the graphics, and elan make it.

For another example similar, what is core about 4frnt having their skis made by Option snowboard? Again, they do not make their own stuff..

In my mind, its as simple as ordering a bunch of fruit of the look tee shirt, and be like " Lets start a shirt company" when in fact all you do is put graphic on it, put a star that kid idolize on it, and you are gone!

I mean, any rich people can come off, and go to Elan, and say, make us a ski, if you have the money, they will do it.. and its fine, but dont come and call yourself a Core company...Especially when making your own skis didnt work and all you produce was crap, so you had to get them done by a big company....

Armada is for the skiers by the skiers.. pretty sick if you ask me. i dont give a shit who really puts them together. $frtn was started in a garage in truckee california... thats fucking sick if you ask me. from a garage to where it is now , its all roots baby.

Yeah, I don't understand the use of the word "core," mostly from a linguistic perspective. However, I don't get how a company like Rossingnol or Salomon could not be called core--they've been around for decades. Just because they weren't started by current pro skiers doesn't make them any less committed.

It's a great marketing ploy though. "Buy core--we're young and cool, like you!"

Well, Armada made their skis in quebec, and they sucked, they should have tried to make them better instead of just going to Elan to get them to make the skis. They act more as a Distributor or a marketing firm selling a ski brand than a actual ski company....

By skiers for skiers.. that is a good one...My billionaire grand father could hire an ingeneer, get a ski together, and then give 3 million to tanner hall, and start a company by skier for skier! hahahhhhah!!

Seriously bros, if you try the armada or whatever ski, and like it, buy it, but dont buy it because its cool, or because you think some pro skier made it or started the company... im not saying do not buy some of those, im saying be aware of what you buy, and buy for the good reason, not because some kiddos on this site said its cool to buy it!

but the armada skis were rider built. they choose the specs, the cores, tthe flex pattern. just because they arent hands on doesnt mean they didnt influence the entire ski.

The word "core" has lost all meaning in my mind. It has become merely another marketing tool for companies who want to play on the teenage hate of "the man".

Core is created by the marketing department.

It's not about being "core", it's about progressing the sport. And that's exactly what companies like Armada and 4FRNT are doing.

Both companies desgin their own skis. Just because they outsource someone to build them means nothing, except you're getting a better product, which, in the end, is what you want, isn't it?

These new companies are putting out new and innovative products big companies would've never even given a thought to. That is why they're here. There was a demand, or, a NEED even, for them to be here.

We all ski at K2 and we were started in a garage too. Does that make us core?

Rhetorical questions obviously, but I laugh at all the "core" talk and "for the skiers, by the skiers" stuff going around. We all love skiing, big company or small and we all make skis. Some just get it a bit more than others. Try what works best for you and ski on them.

I call "fat load of bull"...Have you seen the big mtn. line-up? Armada has the sickest ski line-up this year...I don't like Tanner Hall, K2 is my fav. company, but I bought JP's because they suit my BC riding the best and are way ahead of other skis. Don't hate man (just because you can't afford them), learn to appreciate all brands for the good (even if it's not much) for the sport...look at what you had 5 years ago.

I 100% agree, it annoys me when people don't consider a certain brand because it's not "core"
Personally I'll ski whatever brand works best for me, regardless if it's considered "cool" or not

i personally condiser companyts like salomon and rossi more core cuz they have been around since day one in skkiing. and i like them so mehhhh

core companies may have their skis made else where but they design them and the money you put into their company helps out the progression in the technology of twin tips where as with the big companies some of your money will ultimately go to raceing and other aspects of the sport

option and 4frtn are partners, theya re not only using the same press, they are sharing some other stuffs too. I'm not sure about what exactly are thoseother stuff but they are helping each others so they can survive against the bigger companies.

In some point of view, core company get their skis made by other manufacturer so the ski is better so they wont be deceiving their customers.

Liberty is core. They take sooo much feedback from the riders its incredible. sure any company can do that, but with Liberty, you can talk to the head honcho easily. With some other companies you'd have to go through a ton of bullshit to talk to some old guy who prolly only knows racing.

Yeah K2 probably made the first fat ski Five inches at the waist. fater than anything out there right now. made on an Island inthe PCNW.

core is a term, like grassroots, that companies made up to help make themselves look cooler and get people to buy their stuff. obviously armada and 4frnt didnt coin this term, so its not like it matters, now they are just core because they only make freestyle stuff, the core of their company is freestyle, we are freestyle skiers, so for us, they are core.

yeah just buy what skis are good. if you like them who gives a crap? as for "core" theres true core, in which a company tries to make some good stuff and give people (usually the smaller amount of the market)
((like us, being there arnt as many free skiers than like racers&weekend worriors))
what they want.

then theres "core" think fat man with an apple, he takes away the good part and leves you with the "core"
....as for who is what ill leave that up to you...

If you buy a ski just because you think the company is CORE, then your a dumbass. If you bash a companies skis because the company isnt CORE, then your a dumbass. If you go around using the word CORE, then your a dumbass. Core is a moronic word used by old people who think it makes them sound young. The only thing I hate more then the word core is the word X-core, for the love of god just say hard core. Is it that much extra work to add that tiny little word.

i think "core" is about as mis-used as "sold out." its awesome to have lots of different companies at different ends of the market cuz they all bring something to the table. if a smaller brand has their skis manufactured by a larger company it only seems to make sense, and we end up having better quality products, as opposed to say me or you trying to do it ourselves. also i would imagine that it takes a certain financial capacity to make quality prodicts. makes sense to me anyways

^they wont, I have demoed the JP's and most of volkls lineup and teh volkls is hands down a better ski. they have been at it for years now
