I'm going there this year and was wondering what the best places to go would be. I dont really care about parks, I will be doing mostly bowls/ steeps/ backcountry, stuff like that.
Crested Butte is easier to get to and Telluride has a lot of rich ass stuck up people, Crested Butte used to be where hippies avoided the draft (accorind to my dad) and it is laid back and all about skiing
-For Bowls go to Vail, they have the best Bowls by far, and Blue sky Basin is awesome
-For Steeps go to Crested Butte
-Check out A Basin just because it is so much fun. (good steeps on the upper east wall if they have it open)
-I highly doubt you ski any real backcountry. You could ski loveland pass on the way back from summit county to DIA.
Sadly, I have never skied Highlands Bowl. However, I do know that you have to hike it, so you don't get as much bowl skiing if you go to Aspen. So Aspen has Highlands Bowl... Vail has Game Creek Bowl, Sun Up Bowl, Sun Down Bowl, Teacup Bowl, China Bowl, Siberia Bowl, Inner Mongolia Bowl, and Outer Mongolia Bowl. Just 7 more than Aspen.
Crested Butte hands down. i have skiied at just about every area in colorado and all over for that matter, and nothing, absolutley nothing compares. And i truly do ski EVERYWHERE. In terms of best lift serviced steeps and crazy terrain you wont beat it anywhere, why else would morrison and other big mountain ledgends ski here every day that they is not traveling and filming??
