americans are fatter than other nations because we are "victims of comfort". most americans would much rather satisfy hunger by ripping open a bag of whatever or putting a box of something in the microwave for a few minutes and then its chow time. we dont even consider the possiblility of preparing a piece of fruit or cooking a nutritious meal. we do this simply because its easier. another reason is because in our culture many people are on the go throughout most of the day. this creates the problem of not having enough time to cook something and eat it. and so we trust fast food restaurants to make food for us. we dont really care that the food they make is cheap and crappy. when your stomach feels full then it feels full and thats all we want/have time for. el fin.
Liters of soda go for under a dollar, a gallon of milk costs well over $3. A low income family will buy cheaper unhealthier products because its more for the money.
Sounds like a good post to put under Quinny's rant about fat people. I completely agree with your points, people are just too damn lazy to even think about what they're eating, and when they get fat it's OBVIOUSLY somebody else's fault.
It's not victims of comfort. Fuck that. We're lazy. Victims of comfort makes it sound like it's not our fault. The majority of the obese can do something about it, but they're victims of comfort? Bullshit, they just are too fucking lazy to stand up and go for a walk, they'd rather get sucked into the tv or some other stupid bullshit. End of story.
ok, first off, Canada and other nations are NOT FAR BEHIND. Seconly don't drink soda. Ever again. Your all hypocrites, you may not be fat but soda is so fricking bad for you.
no man, some fat people have genitic problems, like people that come from way way up north where their diet is very finely ballanced with the foods they eat, move down here and their bodys get the crap kicked out of it with fast food and junk food etc. they get madd fat because their genetics and body type arent used to it
Yeah like the chick who was on the morning show last week. 12 years old, 350lbs. "I eat when I'm happy, I eat when I'm sad, eating is an emotional response. I need help."
YOU NEED A FUCKING DIET!
God damnit. People who bitch about being fat and beg for help piss me off. WTF. If they're on a diet and excersizing and it's still not working, THEN bitch for help. Don't sit on a fucking couch and do TV interviews bitching about how you've got more junk in the trunk than I've got junk in my attic.
yet true if you think about it. why are we fat? because we dont have time to cook healthy. why dont we have time? because the women have jobs.
im no sexist. but thats the way i see it.
I ment it like the fat people are lazy and since they have the choice of taking the easy route vs working a little bit to maintain a healthy weight that is what makes them a victim of comfort. see if they didnt have the choice then their lazyness wouldnt really matter, but when you give them the option of being a loaf all day and they take it then they become victims to themselves.
you can lose so much weight buy just not eating as much i weighed about 200 pounds like 3 weeks ago. i'm like "i want to get down to 180, for ski season"
i just started onley eating at meals and iv'e lost 12 pounds as of today.
People in America are given such false ideas about nutrition through the media. It should be a law in this country to take some nutrtition and exercise classes. A lot of the popular foods in this country are classic Carb/Fat meals which are notorious for spiking insulin which causes your body to store fat, while you are consuming fat. Bad bad combo but think about it most meals fall into carb/fat categories. Milkshakes, french fries, cookies, hamburgers, candy bars, It's just really sad.
All those things are fine. Nothing wrong with them. Just dont make them your staple diet. Having a Milkshake is fine, just remember you gotta run for about 60 minutes to burn it back off.
Totally agree on the nutrition and exercise being maditory. Using genetics as a reason to be overweight is a serious cop out. Many people are overweight because their parents and schools failed to teach them how to take care of themselves. A parent who doesn't care about their health will pass that same attitude on to their children. Genetics is a piss poor excuse that is only true for a minute percentage of the fat population.
education is the foundation. Beyond that, motivation and self confidence are important.
yeah, A&W was originally started out near here in Northern California (well, Lodi) and then branched to Sacramento.
Company was started by Roy Allen and Frank Wright and is most famous for it's rootbeer.
A few years ago, a great number of A&W franchises shut down (which was sad, has alot of history) because it was bought over by Yum! Brands, Inc. - The same company that owns Kfc, taco bell, pizza hut, and long john silver.
Most of the A&W's you see around here now are usually in a joint building with KFC. The quality of the food is 100x worse now, because the parent company has found ways to cut cost and make more money off it.
Back to the topic, I don't buy into the lie that we 'don't have time.' I agree that this is the very mindset of many Americans and that alot of us believe it as truth, but no matter how busy our schedule is, we could very easily set some time aside to have real meals. It's all about priorities.
With a little bit of practice you could cook up a quick but nutritious meal in under 30 mins. You don't need anything elaborate. We don't have time for this, yet we always seem to find time for our favorite tv show?
i agree. the main thing is that, most people feel: "well, i ate at Mcdonald's, therefore i am going to get fat no matter what from what i ate".
thay may not say it, but i know many people who think like that. But, really, while eating at McDonald's or any other fast food is not good for you, its also just food, and you can easily burn off the fat and sugar energy you consumed.
but like GhostDragon said: its a question of priorities, and if you DO want to burn that off, you can, easily. there is enough time for a 10 minute jog, or a 30 bike ride.
It's mainly beacause of the high price of good food we say, but hey? how much does an apple or a banana cost? And how much does a chocolate bar cost?
I think you can buy a couple of fruits with a bar.
-I say we let them eat and die from what they like the most.
AHAHAHAHAHA, canada not far behind? what the fuck are you talking about. Besides a few places in the states like the west coast it seems everyone is incredibly overweight, in canada their are not that many super fat people so many more in the states. It must be embarassing when your global image is some 500 pound trucker hat wearing retard waving a little flag while eating a hamburger.
hahaha dude ur canadian. your country is an america wannabe. no one cares about you. like i think its so funny when canadians make fun of america as if we give a shit about you guys. you're pretty much a colony of us. yes we do have fat people but since im 5' 8" 145, i would say that that does not apply to me. shut ur mouth, we are and always will be better than you
I completely agree with you, and I'm guilty of it myself. A few days ago i decided to try to eat healthy. We'll see how long it lasts. Made myself a salad today and some whole wheat toast, so today is good (except for the kit-kat i'm treating myself to, someone has to eat the halloween candy.)
