Your answer is irrelevant. They want to see how well you can justify it...I'm sure you know this, but yeah.
Great minds: Albert Einstein, Noam Chomsky, Leonardo da Vinci (I know it doesn't fit in your definition of "our time" but in case you change your definition), Maynard James Keenan, shit I could go on forever...

Einstien would be good because you could argure for his incredible amount of insight he had to come up with and comprehend his theories.
If you can do greatest intellect of all time i would go with Galieleo(sp.) he by far had the greatest insight and the arrogance to state them in the face of international opposition

haha ya, or the GZA aka Genius. A more resonable response would be Mr. Oja- your justification can be that he knows like 98% of everything there is to know, maybe more

Think outside the box - dont define and write about one guy because there is no ONE great intellect. Instead argue that depending what context you take "intellect" in and what comparisions you make that there could be a couple of great "intellects" then blab and crap on about 2 or 3

If you mean still living, I'd have to say Steven Hawking. He's an absolute genius, but his writing is so easy to understand. THat's rare.

Maynard is definentily one of the smartest people around right now. He probably just goes unappreciated because he sings for Tool and APC, but his lyrics are amazing.

id most def. say Henry Ford. He basically created the assembly line which revolutionized the way products are made.
for a logical answer. Einstein, MLK

INTELLECT is different than a revolutionary. Where talking about Isaac Newton, Einstein, Schrodinger, Fermi, Tesla, ect ect
MLK, Ghandi were not in the true sense intellectuals.

Henry Ford had ties with Hitler, I would not say he was too smart in that respect.
