IPod/ Itunes question.....please help!

So I was all stoked today.... I won an ipod for filling out some survey at my school. Badass.
The problem is that my Itunes went tits up about a week ago.... I have no idea why. I tried erasing it from my hard drive and re-downloading it, but after installation, when I actually open it up, there is always an error message. It doesn't say what the problem is, it is just one of those "Windows has encountered a problem and shut down Itunes. Send error report?"
So I tried a few more times with the re-downloading, but it is always the same thing....
My questions: is Itunes the only program that I can use to download music to my Ipod?
And... any suggestions about what else I can do to get Itunes running? Thanks....

uninstall it all the way, reinstall, and if it still doesnt work, call apple. they have really good tech support...i called once and they were able to fix iPhoto over the phone.

alrighty you need to do a few things that have already been said, first re install again (just give'er another go) if that doesnt work then delete the program off the computer (start>control panel>add/remove programs) and get rid of it then try te - installing, if that also fails then i think you may have to re-format your computer and you can find tutorials on the internet for doing so just search "re-formatting computers" in google, best of luck.

Hmm...I don't know if this is a re-format situation, but you should definately try and clean Itunes off your computer, run some spyware and virus scans...then try downloading and installing it.
