Co terrain vs tahoe terrain.

just curious on big mountain/steep terrain opinions in summit/eagle county compared to alpine and kirkwood in tahoe.......

who knows both, which is better?

Personally I was very disappointed with the lack of challenging terrain in co last year.....its flat. Even stuff that took me two hours to hike wasnt all that great....abasin would be sic if they got snow, but they just didnt last year.

Ive lived in summit and now live in tahoe (3 yrs summit, 7 tahoe) and without a doubt Tahoe kills it over CO...

The snowpack in Tahoe sticks like wet paper to the steepest lines...

picture 500-foot cliff bands that get plastered by snow...nearly vertical lines skiable and huckable...In CO the snow sluffs off and never fills in..

Tahoe in April 20-foot base
CO max depth (summit county) maybe 5 feet

A 10-inch storm in Tahoe fills in the whole mountain vs a CO 10-inch storm and you still have moguls and ice everywhere...

Tahoe - less vert, less exposure
CO - long steep lines, but bad snow and when it does puke it is so damm sketchy due to avy's

Tahoe takes it - north shore rep

^I have NEVER in my ENTIRE life heard ANYONE rip on the quality of Colorado's snow. Sure the quantity may not be a huge amount, but its the best snow anywhere. The champagne pow that Steamboat gets. Its the floatiest lightest shit out there. Think about it our mountains have thousands of vertical feet on Alta Snowbird. Sure Other places get MORE but not as light and fluffy snow.

tahoe is lacking vert?

isnt heavenly over 3200 and squaw over 2800? that is more than keystone, vail, breck.........

So you asked about Tahoe...the snow is concrete. It is heavy and turns to crud easier than Colorado snow...but...I would like to introduce you to a place called Utah and compare it to Colorado-
Alright so without a doubt Utah has better snow than Colorado- it is lighter and they literally get twice as much as we get here in Colorado. Average snow at most summit county resorts is give or take 300 inches a year. Average snow in LCC (Snowbird and Alta) is give or take 600 inches. I also hate to admit it, but certain areas of Utah are also a lot steeper and have better big mountain (Look up UTskier and look at his pics). Its not that I don't love it here in Colorado, I just lust for Little Cottonwood Canyon.

ive been to snowbird, it had the type of terrain I expected to find in colorado and just plain out didnt. Even driving up to snowbird it looks like a mountain where driving up to breck seems like your looking at a hill......

Bottom line I didnt question Utah because Ive been there and KNOW that its better than co.

I havent been to tahoe but Im moving there Jan 1

I would be happy at Utah, Colorado, or Tahoe but I think I would pick Tahoe just cause. But Colorado has some reaaaal light snow, like Utah which is ultra nice to ride in bounds and such cause I'm not a back country kind of guy. But if you are going to stay within resort boundries Tahoe gets a whole lot more snow which means the resorts can stay open pretty long, or maybe it was just last year. I can't remember anything past how good last year was =)

Oh ya, forgot that 4th of july isnt very late for a mountain to stay open. Utah mountains stay open late too.

Been to all three places and I must say I enjoyed Utah the most.

Aspen highlands / aspen mountian / telluride / crestedbutte / Snowmass all have great terrian there is a reason why extream champs are in co

never made it too those areas, probably should have. Summit plus vail/beaver and some loveland pass bc is the extent for me.

tahoe powder vs. CO powder is hardly diff. but if u wanna get all nit picky then CO snow is a little better and less wet. but tahoe gets more. both have good parks and backcountry

I lived On the east for my whole life, last year i decided to move out west, after skiing the east and researching the best in the west, i moved to tahoe, so.... theres your answer - UTAH is sweet to, but worst ski trips ive ever had were in CO. Ive had better and deeper trips in Vermont

tahoe is the best terrain i have ever skied. you cant beat it. the snow may be heavy but we get tons of it. when is the last time any one else has got 30 feet in one storm

Tahoe sucks , you cant ski shit because the snow is literally cement and sticks to all your shit and is heavy. Full of Ninjas on rental skis , slow chairs. tahoe sucks i only moved here because of school.. stay away!! Boooo

Compared to Summit, I'd prob. take Tahoe...

Comparing states... I'd take CO

Monarch, Crested Butte, Telluride, Silverton, Wolf Creek The stuff off of the T bar at Breck, A basin, etc. are all great big mountain type stuff. I'd have to do a little more out in CA to give it a fare shake, but CO is not that bad. Oh, and most of the first few ski areas I mentioned are in the 500" of snow range.

I'd have to say though, my favorite ski area so far is Taos.

the cool thing about utah and mormons is that on sundays everyone's at church. meaning less people on the mountain...well, until the afternoon.

utahns don't feel the need to defend our snow. everyone knows it's the best - it says so on our license plates.

i riden CO and i hated the snow... it snowed 14 inches the first day we were there for nationals, and the snow just isnt all the great to me.... but then again im from alaska and we have the best snow and best terrain in the US.... over 800 inches anual snowfall just at our local resort... think of how much we get int he back country, and think of hwo many big mountains are here... the limits are endless

man tahoe sucks so bad. Never go there. I hate my life because I have to live there and the riding is so incredibally shitty. If you are smart you will move to CO where all the best mountains, people and snow are. Be smart....Go to CO and stay away from Tahoe and Utah for that matter!!

You are full of shit Tahoe snow is wet and makes an Ice sheet on anything that isnt groomed. The back country is ok but colorado has equal or better in most places. You dont know where to go in colorado that is it and Im not going to tell you where the good snow is because you are a fag.

well to start with the original question was how summit county compared to Tahoe...

and in that regard am I 100% correct...eagle/summit county blows...I have been a local at Breck, fuck dude I own property on Lake Dillon, I rent it out and dont ski there for a reason.

Ice in Tahoe? lmfao, ignorance is OK, keep having fun in your 10-inch "dumps"

all you tahoe boys trying to keep me away will be remembered when i get there.......j/k.......

I spent last season in co and it did blow, even the parks werent really all that great. And 10 inches was the most we ever got, and that happened only a couple of times.

Im coming to tahoe, its a done deal.....I was just starting a conversation and it went the typical ns way. Waynewrong, Ill probably look you up when I get there jan 1, I have a pass for alpine and boreal.
