Word. I really don't give a shit how much I edit as long as the final product matches my original visualization. Once the editing is too obvious, the image is usually fucked.

Ya i wasnt trying to say editing is bad, but that some people go over board. In in the write hands these tools can be awesome.

But for the average human being they should focusing more on getting exposure, focus, compositions etc. on point.

I edit almost every photo usually just little tweaks like sunspots, dust spots, cropping, editing certain colors etc,

And another attempt of a star panorama. It's really hard to stitch these because there's not a program that will let you manually stitch AND do it spherically AND have hard edges between images in the panorama. The panorama above is actually incorrectly stitched, the one below is correctly stitched, but it's blurry because of the no hard edges issue. If anyone knows a program that will do all three of those, PLEASE let me know!

I'd say it's less non-photo-educated people, and more just uneducated people in general.

When the saturation and masking edits to a photo get more attention than the actual photo content, that's when you know that the audience is just plain dumb to the point where they probably haven't really seen a photoshop before, and that bizarre and unrealistic look to a photo captures their eye.

I like most of you guys really don't touch much up in post. Maybe I'll fix the exposure a little, flip it into B&W, play with the WB or take out some of the iso noise if there is any, but for the most part, I leave it as is. There's no reason fucking with a photo that need not be fucked with.

just a tip, but for panoramas like this, take them with the camera on its side ('portrait' style, if you will) this minimises the horizontal distortion and will make it easier to stitch (you just need to take more photos)

at least thats what i've been told before and seems to work

This is taken with my Nikon F(1) with the Nikkor 50mm F2.
And an dirty unnamed roll of film older then Jesus' foreskin.

Too bad most shots were ruined but this one worked and the contrast is crazy.

Quick question: where would you (NSers plural) recommend uploading photos to online for decent quality?

I've got quite a few (DSLR...I'm sorry!!) , but I don't really know where to upload them to?

One of my first staged images. Im usualy only taking candid shots. This is usualy tough for me but I liked doing this for once and I liked the result.

Thanks, I was pretty lucky since it was shot from a fast moving train.

I use Flickr for 'public' photography and picture push for 'private' photos.

Too much. I personally dislike when you have sequences where there is overlay like that. Spacing between each shot is key IMO.

But that's just me.

I actually like it, the spacing may be a little bit too close but IMO it looks great i like the fact that you are first drawn to the closest set and then you realize theres a second sequence in the background and also the subject is interesting so it doesn't feel cluttered but instead like things are moving fast if that makes sense?

Nice job man! my only criticism would be IMO minimalism is key when your doing horizon landscapes like this. What i'm getting at is cut off more of the land so that the viewer is focusing on the sky. Right now the land is about 30% of the picture. If it was only about 15%, the sky would really stand out and the picture would be fantastic. great capture tho!

The rule of thirds really isn't a rule, just something to keep in mind. Plus it doesn't really apply to this shot

Rule of thirds is not the only "rule" of composition. It's closely based off of the Golden Section rule. Some info: http://digital-photography-school.com/divine-composition-with-fibonaccis-ratio-the-rule-of-thirds-on-steroids

thats sick man! i stayed up all night last weekend hoping to see the lights, and no luck :(.

I have read about fibonaccis number, its mazing how many things can apply to that. my question was more towards Thomas's view on the rule not being needed for that photo
