faked... and kind of poorly I must say. You can't just blur a bunch of stuff with a gradient and then history brush it back into focus wherever you please, it ruins the effect IMO. If you do want to do a T-S effect, I think it should at least make an effort at authenticity.

Im sorry but as long as he isn't going around saying that it is a tilt-shift shot then what's wrong with using photoshop to make a really sick final product that is obviously not a natural image.

Agreed on that note, people are allowed to photoshop all they wish but my only beef is that the blurring is not based on a single plane of focus, the de-blurring on the jump is distracting to me, thats all. Just sharing my opinion, sorry for hating.

The ring is a representation of marriage.
The heart, love (obviously)
The quote is a direct contradiction to the initial feel of the image.

Contradictions can be read into quite a bit. Heres my take


(most) Every person grows up with the notion that true happiness is reached when you get married and start a family. If your religious, its your duty. Contradicting that can represent that true happiness will never be found unless you love who you are, first.



I have no idea if that was what you were going for ninja but my take on the image in correlation with the knowing that you are a gay and in fact cannot get married in most states, makes this image as a whole, quite beautiful.


p.s. Let me know if I'm crazy...

^not a bad reading of it but I think you might be going a bit far with it considering his original quote about his own image:
"this has been done so many times before, but i had a book and the page just fit for the shot and my camera and a lamp was right there so i took it anyway. "

I understand that images can take on a life beyond the original authorial intents buttttt I think you may have gotten a touch carried away.

the best art in my opinion needs absolutely no description. If you don't connect with it as a viewer, then you were either not meant to or the artist is not visually communicating right.

But is it? 3 shots, one angle, one focus, one focal length.. not much variety, hell the first time I saw it I thought the two right ones were the same image as the black bar looks like it was just laid over..

Its not a true triptych, they are usually linear. Close enough to call it one though.

I don't think Ive ever wanted to tell someone to shut the fuck up more than I do you right now. He moved approximately 2 inches between the shots. I am eternally sorry I considered that the same angle.

so i spent some time messing with some photots i took a while ago today. i used some tiltshif plugin for aperture that i picked up yesterday. super easy to use. im not sure what to think of them so i thought i would let you judge. i love feedback!

Ha thats funny. I dislike the effect, but I like the middle one the most. I guess I can appreciate true tilt shots, but I dread the pseudo tilt phenomenon thats about to/is happening so much. I knew it was about to happen when I saw tilt shift in the teaser of one of the movies recently.. no idea whos.

i feel the same way man. i would love to shell out $600 for a legit tilt shift lens but thats probably not gonna happen anytime soon. haha. its blown up so fast in the past few months. im expecting we're all gonna be seeing a lot more of it too.

i think if i ever go for the tilt shift effect again ill just be doing it in photoshop. this program is nice because it makes it relatively easy but you can defiantly see the diference in spots.
