its not about this picture, but the pictures in this picture wich contains me pooping. ive been photographing this for over 4 years now (all day atleast one). in this picture there are only 297, because i didnt have the space, time and money to print and place them all (around 1000 pictures)

Your'e playing with bokeh. While that can be fun at first, and "ooo look bokeh pretty colours", You don't have a really clear subject in this case. I'd suggest shooting with deeper depth of field and finding unique subject matter to work with. From there, you can work on making that subject 'pop' with shallow depth of field and draw the focus in as necessary.
1. no subject, too much sky, what are you composing for?
2. composition of this throws me off, way to split in the middle
3. best one imo! just looks a bit over edited
4. eh sunset
Disclaimer: I am not a photographer, and most of what I know about photography is from this site. Anyhow, thanks for the critique. Some responses:
1. I was actually composing for a lot of sky, because I like sky. I also liked the diagonal contrast in the bottom third (a little less than a third) of the beach against the water. The people seemed almost like an extension of the beach to me, given that they were both black, and found that effect against the orange water and horizon pretty attractive. However, I know little about composition but that just seemed to make sense to me.
2. I feel you here, although that was kind of what I liked about it. Unexperienced?

I just hate the way the iPhone pictures look, but I agree there is something a little strange.
4. I knew someone was going to stay this, but I never understand why. Why don't people like sunsets anymore? IMO, there is nothing more beautiful in the world than a good sunset, and I get that they are overplayed, but I mean each one is different in some way and that's why I love them. This one was special when I was there, the bay was flatter than it had ever been and the colors were unbelievable. Maybe a better camera could have captured it better, I don't know, I seem to be the only one who loves just a plain old sunset nowadays.

Yea the first two are the X100. I am in love with this camera, it's (relatively) cheap, convenient, and none of this really come with any compromise of quality. Everything you've read about this camera is true, I brought it instead of my 5D to san francisco to see how it fared, and I'm very impressed. A lot nicer than carrying around a huge backpack all day. Now just waiting on the day I can type this all out about a Leica...

An X100 in San Francisco is legitimately the most perfect camera you can have. I always feel like 50mm is way too tight to capture a city of that density.
if you haven't already and if you use photoshop. go to levels and if your histogram is compressed to one side take the cursor and bring it over to the larger area. it will bring your highlights down. or just bring your highlights down somehow
took my camera along on a bike ride, ive only posted 1 picture in this thread so figured i should take more photos and post more often. looking for some critique!
