Went on a hike with some buddies last week and brought along the camera:
I had been taking pictures on portra with my canonet too but unfortunately in an act of idiocy I popped the back off the camera thinking it was the rewind button :'( RIP
I went camping and kayaking this weekend, more stoked on how my lifestyle photos turned out, but some decent action stuff too. I went into it just wanting to experiment with a different sport I don't normally shoot and the adventure was too good to pass up.
The sunsets here have been really cool because of the wild fires.
This was cropped out from a much wider framed picture- I like it, no idea if anyone else will. It's out of focus and doesn't have a real focal point but eh.

You pretty much critiqued your own photo... It's boring, out of focus etc.

I'd suggest getting more creative with taking a sunset shot like this. That's a super cool sunset, but the photo would be nothing out of the ordinary without it. To start, 90% of the time sunset shots are better with the sun not placed in the center of the frame. Another thing to think about would be incorporating a foreground. Sunsets are known for producing some awesome silhouettes, for example. Play around with it and get creative. When I'm framing photos I like to think to myself, "would most people on instagram take this photo?" If the answer is yes, I don't take it. This would be a case where the answer would most certainly be yes.

If anything it could be made into a cool graphic scheme/concept. the composition's not ideal, but it has nice colors and shapes. the water texture is really cool. not a great photo, but I see why you're drawn to it.

I took this one the same night, a bit earlier. I don't like the big pole on the right, and I can't take it out with gimp. Anyone with PS/light room want to do it for me?

I'm not sure how I could crop this differently to get the sun off centered, it just wasn't possible to frame it quite right in the shot.
Seriously. If you do feel the need to post it to instagram where it needs to be square, use a program (like whitagram) to add white edges to keep the actual image aspect ratio
I'm sure somebody will get all pretentious because I said use a simple iphone program to keep aspect ratio's and to avoid the 1:1 crop, but it's a hell of a lot easier than doing it in photoshop/Lightroom
bhill2.0Yes. They were taken from my instagram page online. I used their traditional crop. Great input everyone.
While I don't really care if a photo is cropped to a different aspect ratio I'm not much a fan of the style of most of those photos. The one of the sana hat wearing flipper offer is sick but a lot of the others are annoyingly trendy and over saturated.

Exactly this. I recommend getting an app that lets you jeep the full photo. Or do it yourself on whatever editor you use.

I know how to keep the 16x9 aspect. I chose to crop it in the instagram app, using their original 1:1 crop. It's not a big deal to me, I have the originals for printing etc... I'll never do it here again!
At my art basel gallery I am strictly cropping every photo 1:1 - just for you guys
^I'm really curious how you did that shot. The trees being blurry in the bottom throws me off a bit, was it super long exposure and you had the camera rotating to keep the stars from getting blurry? Anyway, cool shot, love the colors, I just wish the trees weren't blurry!

I've done ones like that before. It's a long exposure but short enough to not get trails (for some reason I think the general rule is like 600/focal length is the max shutter time but I'm probably wrong). A bit of wind will blur the trees but it won't affect the sky

Gotcha, It looked like the camera was moving, not the trees, sorry!

I took 32 photos at ISO 6400 20sec and 16 at ISO 1600 20sec and stacked them using a program called deep sky tracker.
