I will be there in mid-December. Which one is the best?
I am more concerned with the town and what it has to offer more than the skiing- but I will be skiing for sure.

chamonix is a TGR kinda town - more about the hard core mountaineering and scary-ass descents. not a ski resort as such, just a biggish town with a couple trams out of various bits of it.
val d'isere is more of a trendy kinda town with a european flair - cool village, crazy amount of lifts, well developed resort, reasonable park, insane backcountry (gets tracked out cause of the locals but still lift accessible stuff that will blow your mind)
les arcs - good skiing linked to la plagne with a lot of gnar backcountry (a ton of shots in War are from there) but the villages themselves are just huge nasty apartment blocks without that euro-flair.
recommendation: val d'isere

to clarify about chamonix; don't get me wrong, the terrain is mental. this place is where extreme was born, and they were doing it 50 years ago. if you stop by the mountain rescue/police HQ, you'll see a memorial to all the rescue guys that die on the mountain, and there's pretty much 2-3 a SEASON, let alone all the tourists.
so, it's insane, but almost TOO insane.

Cham no longer has a good park. the new Mayor isnt down with tme so got rid of it. I think the Cham jam is being moved as a result. Just what i heard though so id check if its true. Val Disere is awasome.
