Skis for Big Guys

All the recent posts about length really have me wondering - where are the skis for us big guys? I'm 6'4' and 180lbs... these 176 and 180 skis are just tiny (I don't need an 80mm+ waist since I don't go into the BC and I ski mostly eastern pack).

the atomic tweak is unusually stiff, so that can make up for some length for a bigger rider

I am not doing the grabs because I am getting a thrill out of touching my ski-JP Auclair

dude the huckster is pretty damn wide for eastern pack! im 6'2 and i ride a 185 machete 69 and it gets the job done nicely

I know its a wide ski, but it can still hold an edge just as good as all the skis mentioned. It's a super versatile.

Kev, I have the red Dragons (193) and I just sourced a barely used (like 2 days) pair of the black Dragons.

A lot of the skis mentioned (V-Pro, Huckster, Scratch BC) are a bit WIDE for the east (and definitely WAY TOO WIDE dr the Mid-Atlantic).

Would saving my Dragons for the NE and West while picking up something like the Maverick or Ruckit for the Mid-Atlantic be a good idea?

Dude- I'm 180 and I ski a 175 in a wide ski, I ski a nice stiff 170 carve ski (salomon crossmax) for the pack days. Unless you're GS racing you don't need a FUCKIN 190!! I don't know where these kids work but if I ever went into one of thier shops and bought a ski at the length they are suggesting I'd go back in two days and bitch them out. If you're not gonna use the whole ski then please please don't buy it!!

Maybe some of us would rather not have a twin-tip ski, and a big mountain ski, and a carving/race ski - but would rather have something that is versitile enough for all of that. I like leaving rails in the snow when I carve, it's fun

morbumps4me - When I went to the shop to buy a pair of skis, they wanted to put me on a 170 being 180 lbs. I told them that is way to small for me and took the biggest ski in the store. If a shorter ski works better for you great, a longerski works better for me. Its all about preference.

i ski in the northeast, and i use the 01/02 line darkside which is has a 76mm waist, which i've always found perfect for eastern conditions. but the other day i rode a pair of scrath's (fs) while i was getting my lines tuned, and i thought the scratch handled beautifully... and that has an 80mm waist... so i'd assume that the v-pro at 83mm would still handle good on hardpack... i've never tried it, but it might be worth a shot.

I'm 6'4' and 170 lbs and I have a pair of Ak enemys 188 that are perfect for me. I also have a pair of 184 rossi pow airs that feel entirely to soft after I ride my ak enemys. The pow airs are only like two inches shorter(or 4cm shorter) but they are a hell of a lot softer. Just make sure you get a beefier ski. I know you said you ski on the east coast but with the skis as good as they are now you can get away with a wider ski then you think.

first of all goatman ur a fuckin twig. put some weight on. ski size is much more based on weight then height. and strength. and my second point is that all rossi pow airs and moguls ski like a 'wet noodle' there all way to soft.


Anyone else hunting a Sasquatch this winter? We have spotted one in central VT.

Well I am 6'2' 200 lb and ski in the midwest 90% of the time. I am on the 178 Little big fat So far this year on the hardpack I have been very suprised at the edgehold. I would put them against my 195 X-Scream series. althought short radius carved turns are not for this ski. It handles great in medium to long radius turns at speed.

Mogul Racer- The stiff, wide, long AK rockets I think would be an excellent choice for those ventruing into the BC, if you read this guys original post he says he never does. Conclusion: AK rocket is WAY too much ski for this guy and his terrain choice.
