"An interesting thing happened over seven plus years of planning. The Tram Crystal was hoping to install crep up in cost, from $6 million to over $12 million. This project had been deferred until recently when we found a contractor who was able to get the project costs back down to the original price. This will be a two-year project starting the Spring of 2007. The plan is to install the jig-back 100 passenger tram, from the grocery store location to the top terminal of Rainier Express. It will have only two intermediate towers; one on Exterminator and the other near Iceberg Ridge. We are also looking into the possibility of designing and constructing a new summit restaurant at the same time. The grocery store will be temporarily relocated between the Chapel and the Rental Shop."
"The trails were flagged and reviewed by the US Forest Service for the Northway lift in the Northback country. The installation of this new lift is scheduled to take place the summer of 2007."
So wait now, this is just a big lift thing to take a ton of people from the base to top of Rainier, which is normally whatever the bottom chair is plus Rainier Express, yeah?
I was kinda hoping it was going to open up more terrain or something like that. I guess it'll cut lines down considerably though (they were pretty bad today)
