weeelllllll
your guitar runs with a phone plug cord, which is 1/4 of an inch thick, you can buy attatchments so that you make it 1/8 (headphone cord size) of an inch so that it can go into your computer, then you put it into the blue line in jack on your sound card

If you want to give the guitar more body and a richer sound, it's a good idea to also run it through a pre-amp/mixer first and then get some adapter/chords (wal-mart, staples, radio shack sells them)
and then connect it to your pc.
Also, better soundcard will record better sound.

for a really high quality program, i recomend cakewalk sonar 4 producer edition.
we use sonar 2.2 at my school for my music comp program, and that fuckin rocks my socks.

a really good program which i use for all my bands stuff and have been told its a proffesinal style progam like producers use it is adobe audition, i have never had problems with it but it is pricy if you want a legit copy. and you can also buy convert docks for most musical gear like mikes, electric drums and stuff like that with a company called hercules. hope it helps.

^this guy is right. that would be ideal. But if you can't do that, then you can settle for what you have.
As far as what to plug it into:
Best to plug it in through the 'line in/audio in' port on the back of your soundcard (it might have a sound note with an arrow pointing towards it). Then just make sure to tell any audio you use that you're recording from the LINE IN.
If you can't find out where to select from what source you record from.. do this (figuring you are on win xp)
go to start, programs, accessories, entertainment, volume control.
Then once the volume control window opens up, click on options, then properties.
Select 'adjust volume for' Recording.
Click ok. Now a new window will open up. Check the select box under 'line in'. so now if you try to record something with any program (even microsoft sound recorder) it will pull it from your line in port.
you can record by plugging things into your microphone port on the back of the pc.. but the audio levels are controlled by software and may give you a little worse quality.
Another cool thing about the recording window that pops up, is if you select record from: 'stereo mix' then whenever you hit record on an audio program, it will record what's playing on your computer (you can record internet radio, game music, whatever)
If you have any other questions let me know. I've been doing nothing but record music for the last year +.

It'll sound better if you have a "Line out" plug from the back of your amp. Hook that up to your computer and it will give whatever tone your amp has. The best sound quality that I've found was just using a microphone about 4 feet away from your amp. You gotta get a decent mic, though. Not those computer mics.

just use garageband on a mac, u have to get the adapter that goes from ur usb port and then plug ur guitar into the cable and then cable into adapter
