I need computer help

So, i'm getting my new mac tomorow and i'm giving my old laptop to my mom.
But i have a problem. i wan't to format the hard drive. How do i do it?
if i format it, will trojans and shit be deleted??

yes formatting the drive will wipe EVERYTHING off.

if its a PC you can use commands like "format c:"

Formatting typically only removed the file allocation tables but as far as the system is concerned the data is all gone. On a MAC it may be different. If you format it you may remove the OS so you will need a way to reinstall the OS if you plan to use the system for your mom.

you can partition the drive with "fdisk" setting up a 10GB partition for windows only will allow faster processing speeds and a more reliable system. and with that you can wipe a machine clean and still have windows loaded on the partitioned drive.

just something to think about ahead of time to make things easier next time around
