It's official kids, weed is going to be decriminalized in four months, our justice minister announced it, and it's on the news. It's a big fine though, $200-$300 for anything up to 50 joints worth of weed(can't remember how many grams). Just another step towards legalization.

Too bad its being legalized for ages 16 plus.
70% of people on NS will still be smoking up against the law.

I take it this in Canada... lucky dawgs. Hopefully the U.S. will follow your example (go California!); I'm sick of my government spending billions of dollars yearly to stop something that can't be stopped and doesn't need to be stopped.

i know i am retarded. but what is the difference between decriminalizing it and legalizing it? Is this true for all of canada? or is it going to be more so in some spots such as whistler and vancouver, or will it be the same everywhere? post a link if you have one.

legalization means it's like alcohol or cigs, perfectly legal, it's decriminalization means you can be fined for possesion but you won't have a record. And i just saw this stat on the news
average jail time for major marijuana possesion in the states is 8.3 years
average jail time for murder in the states, 6.3 years.
something is messed up and hopefully it'll get fixed up.

decriminalized just means you won't get a criminal record for being caught with weed.. you will still be fined.. but your name will not be written down anywhere so it's fuckin chill..

Even though I don't smoke, I think this a good step forward. It doesn't seem like pot is like crack or other hard drugs. I think a min age is also good.

SVHucker, if I'm not mistaken I believe that the gov't of the State of California has legalized marijuna for medicinal uses... which is superceded by the federal law against MJ, but basically what California is saying is that the national gov't is going to have to enforce marijuana laws within the state, because state government isn't going to anymore.

I'm not totally up to date on our marijuana laws, but as far as I know medicinal marijuana is legal round these parts. There was however a big bust of medicinal marijuana down in santa cruz a month or 2 back; I'm not sure who led that. I don't see california decriminalizing or legalizing weed anytime soon though. The goverment would be too embarrassed to admit that their whole war on drugs was somewhat of a waste and that they were wrong. and there are too many republicans in socal to vote it through. my opinion.

From what i've read they have pretty much decided to decriminalixe it. Also they are discussing whether or not to set a possible legal limit of 5 or 30 grams, an minimum age of 16 and the possibility of letting you grow your own within reasonable extent...

Where I live, there are five ski resorts within 10 kilometers of my house. Everybody who lives here, whether they're rich or poor, skis all the time. In the winter, skiing's a way of life. Everything looks set for decriminilization in Canada except for the fact that the US really doesn't want that to happen (it will make it harder for them to justify spending billions on the 'war on drugs' which basically does nothing but overcrowd jails). And since Canada relies so heavily on America for trade and other things I am sure that it will take longer than four months to get this law changed. I am certain that if we weren't so geographically close to the US, marijuana would already be decriminilized.
That's my opinion at least.
