skiing will never go mainstream, because it is a sport accsesible and driven only by rich people. end of story. so all this talk of tanner hall or whatever bringing skiing mainstream is reall funny!
your a fool i dont meen that to insult you, but you need to get out of your world and see other things skiing is a rich persons sport, most of the worlds population lives below the povertyy line.
well, i guess TV isn't mainstream either than, because of all the African tribal nations that don't have televisions... so I guess we don't have to worry about Tanner's interview. The "mainstream" won't see it. they are too poor.
Most americans can afford to go skiing. Their involvment in it would definately be restricted by cashflow, but if most americans can definately afford to go skiing.
Who knows maybe some of them will decide to forgoe the traditional scumbag teenage pregnancy because tanner got them on a pair of sticks.
Tanner Hall for administrative ceo of all social operations.
you can afford to do anything. you can ski bum without a highschool education as far as im concerned. exposure might be different, but skiing can def. be done by anyone.
which is what i do i left my house at 17 from nyc and got jobs washing dishes and shit evrything on me when i go skiing is paid for by me and i am by no means a rich person, but the reality is there are not alot of people like my self in the grand scheme of things, the sport remains a sport supportted by rich people PERIOD there is no way around it with out rich kids gettingg expensisve twin tips or whatevr for the holidays evry year the ski industry dose not exist.
i hope for the kids sake that he is being sarcastic cause saying is the most main streem sport ever is possibly one of the most stupid things you will ever probably say in your life, soccer=mainstream sport skiing=rich persons sport aside from austria mabey i heard herman meir is form a long line of brick layers
in america i dont agree that soccer is even a mainstream sport. Look at MLS how many MLS games get sold out? Now baseball and football are mainstream sports.
yeah, but football gear is expensive. according to the original argument, it cant be mainstream. i know i'm kind of purposely being obnoxious here, but it's kind of a pointless argument.
skiing is allways looked at as a rich persons sport, but this is ofcourse compaired to soccer. yes it is expencive but it is not infact diven by rich people it is the middle class and the ski bums that drive the industry. think about it, when you go to the local hill what kind of vehicles do you see in the parking lot?
my mom and i on welfare when i started skiing i can only work in the summer and pay for nearly all my own shit, it can be done.
out of all the people that i know who ski at my hill regularily only 1 is rich and he inhiereted all his money (after already being a ski bum for years) and only one of his 4 kids acctualy skis.
it depends what you consider mainstream, while many americans cannot afford to go snowboarding, many people also consider it mainstream, at least in the aspect that everyone knows what it is, i think that when people are talking about freeskiing going mainstream, they are talking about it reaching the current popularity level of snowboarding. it is clear that the prohibitive costs mean that freeskiing isn't going to be america's next "national passtime" but that doesn't mean it can't be somewhat mainstream. also tickets to pretty much all major league sporting events cost a similar amount as a day pass, proving that if the interest is there, americans are willing to spend large amounts of money that may not come easy in order to enjoy themselves.
Skiing is a very expensive sport. Powder Magazine's median reader is 32 years old. 95 percent of those readers are male and average $75,000 household income. I don't think skateboarding and surfing can say the same thing.
I do, however, think skiing is mainstream. You see it everywhere. I saw Eric Pollard on TV at Best Buy. Nearly 50,000 people were interested enough in skiing to turn out for Johnny Moseley's Icer Air in San Francisco. Thousands turn out each year in American metro cities for Warren Miller premiers. It's mainstream as a whole, just not this niche.
