Wireless with a mac

I just got a powerbook and i'm not able to get on my home wireless internet.

the wireless internet is working. my pc is on it and fast.

when it's plugged into ethernet, it works.

the router is a linksys.

i have to turn my airport off in order to plug it in and use the internet.

the airport , when on, is getting rull signal, and it knows the network it's on and everything, but when it comes to connecting to the internet (safari, camino, or even AIM), I can't. it just doesn't connect to the internet, but it's on the network.

what could it be? network settings?


here's the curveball: took it into the apple store after being on the phone with mac for 1.5 hours, and they decided it must be the aiport card. but , i'm getting signal fine, and in the apple store, it worked just fine, wirelessly, on the internet.

ideas on my internet settings? maybe on the router/main pc that the router is running from?

hmm.. im wireless also on my Mac using a linxsys. If you have the most updated OS, then you should go to Internet Connect>Airport if you are getting service and you see bars then you should be able to connect. otherwise I would reccommend Going to
Apple>System Preferences>Network>Configure Network. You might just need to choose your network, maybe it has a password or is locked. if you really need to call a specialist on the phone. sometimes you can get away with free help. if its a new mac, call the 90 day free warranty hotline.

I had this same problem. You probably have it set so ethernet is your main connection port. go to system prefs, network, network port configurations and then do what it says to make your airport your main connection. hope this works.

i had the same exact problem, what i did was installed all the airport updates, and had to call my local internet provider ( roadrunner ) , they ended up giving me all these different numbers to try and eventually one worked, if i was u thats what i'd do, first download all the updates and see if they help, then call
