Finding people to ride with in Alta?

Heres a real noob of a question, but I'm sure it's probably a commmon question too. I've just started to get into the park as of 2005, after going to COC this yes, but I've been skiing for many years prior to this.
I love skiing, and I want to start hitting the backcountry a bit and riding the park a lot more. I don't know a single person who rides though. It's slower to learn on your own too, because you dont get any feedback, and its not always that motivating.
Not to mention it's not really a good idea to hit big kickers, ride the back trails and hike alone.
So I'm wondering, are there groups of riders that pool and head up to the hills? Where should I be looking to meet other people to ride with?
Not looking to be a groupie, just some people to ride and have fun with, you know?
I find a lot of the people in the parks to either be not interested, or on other days, there is just no skiers at all. Finding people to hike and build some kickers with seems especially hard.

i'm surprised that you can't find others in the park that would be willing to build some BC kickers. maybe you should approach the older kids.
but if you want to meet some folks who ride the backcountry head off the backside of Catherines (off the Supreme lift). the area is pretty safe and i always meet people riding back because it's so accessible. every once in a while you'll even see sage and the collins brothers shooting back there.
good luck!

Are you talking whistler/blackcomb?
I actually live in calgary, so sunshine, panorama, kicking horse are more within my area of influence.

Alta is short for alberta.
Although I understand where the confusion comes from. Sorry.
