Well, most of my teamates freeski/hit the park too. I'd say there are maybe 5 people out of 40 on the team that cant do a 3, and theyre girls. A few even have freestyle sponsorships which pay out even more than their racing sponsorships.. Dont forget that quite a few big names in new school skiing were racers first, so they understand speed, line and air moreso.
Yes, racing does have gay aspects to it, like the early mornings, speed suit, but the travel, freshtracks and free gear/passes arent that bad. For example we were in Chile for 3 weeks this year, and it snowed so much that it buried the top two t-bars, and some cats, we had a week of the most epic skiing in my life. If someone is bashing park/big mountain skiing theyre an idiot.
racers deserve as much, if not more respect than we do, mates. it take a lot more time to be a good racer than it does to be a good freeskier. i used to race for a good few years and that shit seemed like it never got any easier. ive been skiing the park for about 2, and seem to learn a new trick every day. its hard, whether or not youd like to admit it.
i totally have to agree with that some of the best men (jon, mickael etc) and women (grete eliassen etc) were former racers and many of them have brothers or sisters who still race i think lots of racers can ski very good and do lots of stuff in bc and park
Its not that I dont like ski racing or racers,i think its wicked cool, and i did it when I was little. But the thing i dont like is that lots of them act like there better than the rest of the,and sure the're better skiers than most of the people on the hill, but dont act so cocky. It's really a rich persons sport theres no way i could have afforded it.
I have mixed feelings about racing. I dislike it because it seems like all the kids who are into racing don't actually like skiing. They train and race and never really ski. On the other hand, its surprising how many awesome pros raced when they were kids, Seth Morrison says that racing tought him everything. I think its okay to race, as long as you're having fun, after that its just a waste.
i love skiing for sure i train a lot but it's fun and when the trainig is over i do an hour of park or something and when im home i do a lot of bc skiing race skiing gives me the oppurtunity to travel around the world and ski at the most epic places it gives me the oppurtunity to ski 130 km/h down the slope and i can live with that and it's the best job you can imagine
There was an article in freeze i think where Henrik Winsdet (sp) was talking about how he grew up racing and how he acutally learned hoe to turn and handle high speeds before he started jibbin and how it is the best thing you can do for jibin
I race i think it is fun
plus i get to ski everday in the winter
the kids that give racers a bad name are the cocky ones who think they are better than everyone else and cut people in lift lines at hood during the summer. Most other ones respect fellow skiiers and are cool kids
i think the big problem here isn't that racing sucks. i think it's all the little kids (and its true, the under 14'ers) who cut in line and act like they are better than everyone else. one of my best friends is a racer and i have alot of respect for her because she trains hard all the time, year round, and has an awesome attitude towards everyone on the hill. it's the few kids that are jackasses that give racing a bad name.
i'm on the race team but i started of fs skiing then i decided that i can get a ride to the hill every day if i join the team then i just cut practice every day and hit a rail or jump.
and i race with invaders i want to race the coarse switch and watch the coatches get pissed
most of the racers at my mountian are fags they wear that fucking suit around even though they rnt racing and the just hit all the jumps and just do strait air and they wont wait in the line..i just pisses me off
yea woohoo ya yea yeya waht yea I'm on my school's race team. just a way to get skiing more. my friend is also a pretty good racer, and not gonna lie, she owns me when it comes to skiing skiing. she just has better control over her skis from turning gates all her life.
Rob Boyd coached me for two years and all we did was freeski. It would snow overnight, and we'd get a call to bring fatties up, because if there was a hint of snow we'd always go freeskiing. Man that guy knows where all the untouched lines are, even at 12 noon on Whistler.
notice how all the boys on here are fags? have some respect. I'm tired of fellow skiers hating on racers, when it can be just as hard as park skiing, espically on the world class level.
um no. not really. if you wanna get into racing, it costs sooo much more than if you just wanted to go freeski. dude, race teams are so expensive! plus, your lookin at like 8 different pairs of skis, tons of work done on your small ass pair of boots, extra money for funky plasticized bent poles, and way way way too much money for a piece of spandex
racing is gay, but if people want to do it, thats cool. some of my really good friends are racers, and i dont have a problem with them or it. ive never done it, so im not gonna sit here and hate. but if im not gonna have a problem with them, they better not have a problem with me
I'm sorry I was stating what I felt. I don't usually get into arguments on ns, but this is just lame. you're saying racing is gay,(what, because they wear GS suits? yes? so? they have a reason to. freeskeirs wear baggy clothes, they probably think we're weird.) yet you've never done it before. you have nothing to justify your statement with. don't talk shit about something until you have actually done it.
i just use my schools ski team to give me a free ride down to the moutain after school hell i race in twins and i hardly go practice with them .... i just sneak away to the park
