if it's a wooden handrail you're talkin' about, just wax it and you should be fine, though it's sooo easy to catch and edge

dont have edges, and wax the hell out of it. is it splinters any when you run you hand down, try taking a sander and smoothing it out. some rails iif the wood quality is poor, then dont other trying to slide em

just do it when the rail is frozen the wood will be alot harder and easier to slide on.
