Waterproofing on coats

i just got a coat that has a 1,000mm waterproofing but has a PU coating, which i have no idea wut it is, (the adapter coat by siver)...i was lookin at other coats and some had 10,000mm water proofing like a lot of the 686 coats...i was just wonderin wut all this meant

I got this off gaperslayer in another thread...suppose a jacket says 10,000mm waterproof:

The equation is something like this:
10,000g/m2(square meter)/24(24 hours) it means:

It's how much mass of water pressure (10,000g) can be applied to a surface area of fabric (m2) for 24 hours...without seeping through the fabric.
