I've shot with the vx1000 with no lcd and you can get shots fine if you know how to hold and move and aim the camera.
It's not impossible you know.

it's not for just getting shots. lcd's are much better for reviewing, depending on the angle you cant always get your eye to the eyepiece . anyway, no, you don't need and lcd, but the more features the better.
