Replying to HFS and Windows

I've got a LaCie external HD which I'd like to be able to use with my Windows PC. I can't reformat it to NTFS/FAT32 because they won't work with the Mac's at school, and I'd looe a bunch of work. The file system is HFS or HFS+ right now.

There are two not-free programs that will let Windows read an HFS/HFS+ (Mac) formatted drive. TransMac and MacDrive. There is a free commandline thing called hfsutils which I can't get working.

Has anyone found anything else?
