Mounting skis

i mounted a pair of telemark this week-end and they mount their skis center cord. they mount the ski on the point of balance of the ski. so the weight in front and the wight in the back are the same, anybody got an opinion on this ?

On telemark skis there isn’t a option to place the bindings differently because of the free heel. I guess you can adjust the binding +-2 cm. Move it forward to be able to enter the turn faster on ice. But for jumping and having fun on telemarks you should have a balanced ski.

My Dragons aren't chord center, but just slightly ahead. The main reason why freeheelers mount at chord center is because the dynamics of the tele-turn are different from the p-turn.

On twins, however, I have noticed that almost all freeheelers mount a little in front of chord. My Dragons were mounted with the 3-pin line of the Skyhoy template on the boot center line that was marked on the ski - that places it a little ahead of chord, IIRC. Using this set-up, when a tele-turn is initiated, the toe of the rear boot (the one which applies the pressure) is basically on the balance point.

no but mounting a regular alpine jib ski like that how would that be ?

I think that it would be a bad idea to mount an alpine rig at chord center in the same fashion as a telemark rig. A tele-turn involves rear ski pressure at the ball of the foot. A p-turn will pressure the ski underneath the entire foot. To alter the mounting location would probably put pressure on the ski in the wrong spot, thus making turning more difficult and altering the handling of the ski detrimentally.

Dude, jibbing with telamarks is a waste of a good twintip ski, its pretty much the same fun as skiing powder with blades.

If you push the binding forward you will have more grip in the pipe.

jibbing with a telemark would be bad ass. you would have to be twice as good to be able to do freestyle on them, and those would only make you better on your twins.

Inverted landings on telemark is kinda tricky, landing with parallel feet like you don on slalom is out of the question, so basically you will teach yourself a few things that will hurt you when skiing with a slalom binding.

Telemark is just not made for jibbing, at least thats what I found out after skiing telemark for 13 years.

Oscar: Tell that to Karhu who now makes three twin-tip skis: the Jak, the Ruckit, and the Rox (all of which would easily compete with anything made by an alpine company). You may want to watch Unparelelled and Unparalelled II if you think that teleskiers shouldn't enjoy NS

Sorry, i haven’t seen those movies. And I kinda lost belief in telemark as a park tool a few years ago. If people are able to have fun on telemark ski, nothing is better than that.

Ill try to look up those movies, it will hopefully change my mind. I guess i got used to people messing up a good pair of 1080's with a telebinding, and not doing any inverted landings.

The teleskiers in these films do it all. Inverts, spins, rails, pipe. I will agree with you and say that it's pointless to by twins - alpine or tele - if you aren't going to use them for what they were meant for.

ok. this is not what i'm talking about mounting an alpine binding on a twin tip at the center cord so your ski is balanced and its easier to jib ?

It would be easier to jib if the boot center was placed over chord center - you would have a totally centered stance like the 1st gen 1260's.

It would probably bite outside the park though.

Nice videos :) I watched the trailers for UNPARALLELED II & III, and they pretty much show what telemarking is about. Big mountais, long smooth turns in powder, dropping from cliffs and freerideing in other words enjoying a big mountain. If your able to use them in the park as well, thats totaly rad :)

But my tele's stay home waiting for powder days.
