gotamas are stiff as shit
armada jp vs julien are cardboard soft
both have very little side cut
vicious isnt very stuff but not extremely soft
has a larger amount of side cut
not very similar skis overall

^what? the gotama is soft. The vicious will be the best all around as the gotama is a pretty pow specific ski and the JP's have like no sidecut so are only really good for pow and seem pretty tailored to Jp's needs.

huh? the gotama is far from soft
but i would agree that the vicious will be the most versitle ski out of the 3

SOry to hijack the thread but should a pow ski be soft or stiff. The 04/05 godama is stiff and feels like shit out of the pow. And the Seth Visious is soft and feels great. Dont know that the JP vs. Julien is like? Soo.... Nick.

If you want to jib in the backcountry don't get gotamas they're not even really twinned I'd probably go vicious or JP/Julien

Maybe the elizabeths too I heard those were really fun to ski

keep in mind I live in Ontario so I rarely get to see real pow, but my understanding is you want it to be soft enough that the ski can float in the powder, if the tip is to stiff then the ski wont be able to float and you'll sink... not fun. I'm sure people will correct me if I am wrong but thats my understanding.

different constrution too. No more fucking wood sidewall. It is Ptex now.
Anyway....
All these skis are dope. I own two of the 3.
JP/Julian is pretty soft. It doesn't have a lot of sidecut, so that is good for powder. But they won't be as versatile on the groomed stuff. Fun skis, very light, but the vicious and gotama are superior skis, IMO. As a BC jump ski the JP is great, but as a everyday or pow ski the vicious and gotama are overall better.
the Gotama is the stiffest of the 3, but not all that stiff. Nothing compared to a Ex or medium flex igneous. Also not too much side cut. But gots are dope. if you can ski the ski out of powder then you should learn how to turn. They don't turn as easy as the vicious, but they aren't hard to turn. You just have to make bigger turns. Other thing is they ski short. Running length on the 183 got is small, around 165cm. THis is because the twin is huge. Many people find the 190 got very managable as an everyday ski.
The vicious are the most versatile. I think these ski pretty short as well, even though their actually length is longer. the 189 is actually around 193cm long. This is my everyday ski. Very capable in every condition. Better on groomed and crud than the gotamas.
So, if you want a pow ski look at the vicious or gotama. they are both superior to the JP/Julian. As a pow only ski, the gotama maybe better, but if you were looking for an everyday ski I would choose the vicious. Whether you choose the vicious or gotama, though, you'll be fine as they are both dope skis.

finally a solid answer, i've owned both too, I think that its just P tex over the sidewall sam thing with that on top, but I would say they are about equal in crud, but yeah definitely less sidecut, just makes for a different riding style. And dude bout me, Volkl skiis shred the shit out of armada. Not that they are bad , volkls and K2s are just better. Look at their constructions on their websites.

first...biggest differece is the wood sidewalls crack. New ones don't. other than they fairly bomber skis.
and as far as armadas, I am actually a fan. If I were to get a park only twin that was thinner the AR5 would probably be it. and the ANTs are more and more tempting everyday. But as an everyday ski teh JP/Julian just isn't the best option.
If someone was looking for a ski to just do BC jumps with, it is one of the best skis made. And that is what it was meant to do.
But as something meant for charging and versatility is falls short compared to the vicious and gotama, as well as other skis.
But Armada has changed that with the ANT. It is gonna be one of the best skis of the year. If I hadn't already bought the vicious then I would be giving the ANT serious condsideration.
So, I am a fan or Armada and like what they are doing with their skis. But I don't think the JP/Julian can compare to the vicious or gotama. Just don't have the versatility. The ANT, though....WOW. That ski is Armada stepping in the right direction. Props to them for that.

you know you can send them back right?
I got a pair of last year gotama brand new a few weeks ago. So, the warranty is still good for a year. So bascially my goal is to crack the sidewall and get this years gots. They are mounted with AT bindings, though, so it will be kind of hard to do.

Wait it is hard to get them warranteed with Atomic Bindings? why is that? That would kick ass.

Touring, not atomic.
Iggy, have you skiied the JPs? I think it's preference more than anything else as to what's "better" in pow... and to be fair, JP didn't spend most of his War segment hitting BC booters, now did he... they seemed to work okay for him.

No I haven't skied the JP, most of my understanding of the ski comes from talking with people like Luke about them, who enjoyed the ski and felt there were better options out there.
I completely agree that it is up to preference. But generally, the gotamas and vicious are more versatile. While JP did alot of sick stuff on the JP, not everyone is as sick and skis like JP. And most of the segment is in powder, where the JP is a dope ski. They are also...his designed ski to fit his skiing style.
But due to its sidecut and relative flex, most people will find them not as easier and fun to ski on groomers, not great in crud, and just generally not as versatile.
And I did say the ski is good in powder, because of its sidecut. My pow skis have hardly any side cut, but if it isn't a ski of choice if I'm looking for versatility. And it is sooo soft that in crud that ski gets kicked around a fair amount.
So, I am taking very generally. Overall, the vicious and gotama are gonna be easier for most people to ski everyday than the JP, IMO. Some people may disagree, but from my understanding of the way the JP's ski, and having skied gots and seth pistols (not the vicious yet, can't wait though), I would much rather ski them everyday. For people who prefer less sidecut, the JP maybe better.
