ive always wanted to know .... why do people ski? why dont they snowboard instead... or why dont they skiboard... why chose one over the other please enlighten me.. o h yeah please get the gehay cracks down to zero.. i already understand many of you are very narrow minded on other sports ... but please im not making fun of any sport i would just like to know wh y you got in to it and why you dont switch to a different sport? thank you
well, for one, and to a certain extent, skiing is harder. snowblades dont have any float in pow, and if you land backseat, you'll be on your ass in no time.
Snowboarding just doesn't appeal to me because its like the big new trend, and i was already skiing, so i didnt feel the need to board. The only reason i would ever want to board would be for that awesome float in powder that boards get..
i started to ski because my parents didn't want to pay for the snowboard rental. i like their decision. skiing is real and i think it is more fun than snowboarding. yes i have done them both.
wow im impressed so far. virtually no bashing yet.
i ski becasue i love it. Its hard for people who dont ski to understand this passion. Snowboarding is ok, but everyone does it becasue its the 'cool' thing to do. but bow people are finally starting to see skiers in the park going biger than the boarders and realize the potential that our sport has. skiboarding is out of the question tho. i would never sink to a level that low. it just looks so stupid, there not very versitile. The best part about skiing is skiing through powder. Park is fun when the other snow is crappy, or in my case, u live in the prairies. The thing about skiboarding is u cant to one lap in the park, one lap through deep pow. it just doesnt work.
ok then ... what do you people think about skiboarding then i have heard no comments on this topic yet.. is that becuase i asked for the childish answer to be left at the door?
for most people ski boaring is either you love or you hate it, a lot of people hate it because they are just like a childish version of skiing, not more fun, but easier to control and spin, but basically impossible to look stylish with, plus they hav no float in powder what so ever, personally i hate them
you say it is impossible to look stylish on skiboards... i certainly disagree.. i skiboard and i do it with others we ... and when you do our thing people around us tell us that i look good and "stylish " and let me add this comment... you say that you ski because it is fun .. then why do i bring up skiboards you all of a sudden bring up negatives of skiboards.. why cant it just be that we do it because you too do it because we like it ... why is there a need to make things negative
i ski because i grew up in park city. and skiing is one of the biggest things here, my dad has been working up at the resort for 20 or more yrs now, and i think skiing is the best way to get away from everything. i love being up in the mountains jus having an awesome time
ok the comment posted was that skis can do WAY more than skiboard.. backcountry is not way more it is one thing that skis may perform better in ... i am still trying to figure ou twhat way more is
Land big air and ride away. Hey man slide how you like but don't expect any intelligent discussion on the use of skiboards here.
Skiblades are slower than skis, are not as stable at high speeds.
I will help your argument by saying blades are way easier to do multiple daffys and you can walk right into the chalet and have lunch without taking them off. Can't do that with skis.
well it is not true that skiboards are unstable... you can do big airs and land and ride away.. it is not necessary to land way back on your skis inorder to ride away.. they are not unstable at high speeds ... have you riden them at high speeds(or at all)... analso i have no experianced them as being slower than skis also these all seem to be myths ...
K I don't even know why I'm bothering but... HAHAHAHAHAHA! Maybe at your little 100ft vert hill you can keep up with the skiers but in the real world you would get smoked on any run out west. Carve it up dude!
well i learnt to ski, cuz well i was 5 and i dontthink many people snowboarder then, or atleast i didnt know of it. I tried it all snowboarding and once even snowblading. I hated snowblades and thought they were stupid. I got a snowboard formmy parents in grade 5, i secretly was like i wanna but I learnt how snowboard just to be nice. They way I looked at it, I could get OK at both or awsome at one, so I chose skiing.
ive tried all 3 and i have to say skiing. on snowboards you just dont feel the same freedom as on skis. I actually started on skiboards and dont regret it. they are great to learn on but after a few weeks you really need to move to skis. they are just longer which makes them much more stable everywhere
The feeling you get while skiing a steep line on skis is unlike anything attainable in any another discipline. The sensations that skiing offers me are uncomparable to any other stimulation I have ever encountered. Skiing is what I feel most comfortable and natural doing, and I feel the most "pure" when I am doing it. Skiing gives me something that I can't obtain anywhere else, to the point where it is entirely an extension of my physical self.
First of all, I love being outdoors, I love "extreme" sports, and winter just happens to be my favorite season. Combine the three and you have snowsports. I was raised skiing, since about the age or 4 (I'm now 17). Skiing was the most popular thing at that age, so my parents slapped me on a pair and I took off. Instantly fell in love.
Skiing is just a better combo of snowblades and snowboards. There is a reason that skis have been used since way back. They are the most practical.
Also, skiing has the ability to travel faster, and boost higher than snowboards due to common physics.
Another aspect of skiing that draws me to it is the lifestlye. I like what skiing stands for, and how diverse it has become.
I love the underdog, I got into this ages ago and I just think skiing can be soooooo much more stylie than boarding... key word CAN be. Depends who's doin it and how :P
I love forwards, not a fan of sideways ... it took me a while to get rails as a result of this lol.
skiing gives me a feeling that is impossible to achieve other wise. it is the only thing that would drive me to get up before dark on a saturday. its the reason a person will show up an hour early on a powder day to wait in a tram line. skiing is skiing, if its on eastern ice, wasatch fluff, late season mash potatoes, or any other snow condition imaginavble. i would gladly ski in the rain and still love every second of it. it drives people to hike for 5 hours to get one run in the backcountry. no other sport has as dedicated, extreme, or hardcore athletes as skiing does. snowblades are gay, not too crazy about snowboards either.
maybe you should take a closer look at his name "skiboardsrgehay" = skiboards are gay. I have a feeling this dude is an alias trying to stir shit up but failing miserably.
its not just backcountry. its pretty much anything off-piste. like ill refrain from using the 'looks super gay!!' thing umm skiboarders in moguls? arms flailing? or what about in steeps? ive never seen a skiblader ski a steep run with any rythym or fluidity.
but think about it. skiing in the backcountry is where it all started. then park caught on, and what are we doing now? incorperating park tricks into big mountain lines. it just makes sense.
landing switch on blades in powder? no way in hell.
i laugh everytime i see a group of snowbladers straned near the top of the mountain on a powder day, as i ski by them on my fat twins-switch.
well lets see. my dad was ski patrol at mammoth and we were up there on all holidays and weekends. i started skiing when i was 2. snowboarding was barley even alive. and well skiing is just very fun. it never gets boring for me. snowboarding is ok. i tried it one year didnt really like it. havent tried ski blades but they seem really gay and whenever i see a skiblader he looks like a faggot.
o ya boarding has no style ( niether does blading). but like its the only thing that gives me this rush and makes me feel like im really living life to its fullest extent. Its the only sport ill wake up at 4:00 to get on the road so i can do something i enjoy
to me, the feeling of progressing is huuuuge. knowing you've stepped it up from a 5 to a 7, stomping it.. the feeling is great. landing your first killer trick, building a sweet pow booter and just hiking it all day. such a good time.
in '96 everyone i knew switched to snowboarding...skiing was my life then and it's my life now. There's no 'why', it's just what happens makes me happiest.
i grew up skiing since like 4. when twin tips become popular, i wanted a pair of 1080s real bad, but couldn't afford them. i got skiboards eventually since i lived in pennsylvania, and could afford them. i was pretty damned joey. eventually i went to college, and could ski at mt. snow. the first time I hit a legit jump there on skiboards I instantly knew they weren't going to cut it. There was no way they would handle jumps that big (not that big really in retrospect, but still true). not much later i found skogens for $180, and never looked back. twin tips are where its at.
i wouldn't knock boarding though. if i ever move west like i hope to, I def might try boarding, snowboarding in pow looks way more fun than skiing in it.
