hey i need to figure out this math problem and i need help:
A boat is going 24 miles in 3 hours with the current, then it goes16 miles in 4 hours against the current. Find the rate of the boat in current, and the rate of the boat in still water.
please help me, i dont really know how to find the rate in still water

it goes 8 mph with the current, 4 mph against the current, so it goes 6 mph in still water, right?

are you saying you want to know how to do it?
the speed with the current 24/3, simplifies to 8/1, so 8mph. the speed against the current is 16/4, which simplifies to 4/1, so 4 mph. so you can either think about it logically from there and think that since the boat goes 8 mph with the current and 4 mph against it, its regular speed must be 6. or you can make two equations out of ths problem
(x=speed of boat
y=speed of current)
x+y=8
x-y=4
so use substitution to find x and y, and you have found x, the speed of the boat, and y, the speed of the current
