OK, we've all been through why and why not this impending war with Iraq is apropriate, and we still dont have an answer. Who cares? I'm just wondering, it this war does escalate to the point of a draft, does anybody have a plan of action??? im just shitting myself and wondering what anybody else is gonna do...

i could pretty much guarantee that there won't be a draft. with the political mess the world is in right a draft just won't work. there would be too many dodgers and the supreme court would not be able to uphold it as law. besides the key to winning this war as in '91 is not with infantry but with mechanized weapons.

anyone who thinks that they should move out of the country becuase of the situation in Iraq is paranoid. i'd be worried if Bush wasn't putting so much pressure on Iraq.

Fairygirl-sounds like your freinds are pussies, offense intended. When theres a problem just leave? I dont know if their flight is draft related or on moral grounds, but it doesnt really matter, running away is pretty cowardly.

As per the draft issue- if you are enrolled in college, and passing then you cannot get drafted if you do not want to, so dont fear.

I dont think you should go and fight simply because your country tells you to, personally I cant even figure out if the government is telling the whole truth. Its sad to say, but I dont really trust the gov't on this issue, is Bush trying to cover up a shitty administration (holy shit I hope hes not that insane, but I wont dismiss the idea), is the government pushing for this war just to get their way and eliminate one of their enemies? I think the war would be legit if our intelligence sources and the gov't TRUELY believed that America was threatened, but Im not sure. This doesnt mean that Im not proud to be American, but I dont really agree with whats currently going on, and the gov't should be seriously questioned.

hell, i have lived in america my whole life, and i have also lived in North carolina (which is considered the south). and i have only met one person that would dodge a draft, and he was a pot head pedifile. so, i totally support the draft, but i really dont think that it would happen. also, the way that wars are fought these days, i dont think a draft would even be necessary, first we would bomb the shit out of iraq, then we would nuke them, then we would bomb the shit out of them again, then we would nuke them again, and then we would send in james bond, and he would solve the rest of the problems for us.

yah, it really was dumb considering james bond is british. at least you admitted it. as for the thread issue, i thought there was a law that passed after vietanm that said they can't hold a draft anymore. maybe i'm making this up (or am just stoned).

i think there can still be a draft. There wouldnt be one if we went to war with iraq cause like most people have said it would be a lot like '91 and we wouldnt need that many people to make a draft necesarry. Also in a war where 50% at most of the country supports it I dont think anyone would support a draftr.

they changed the draft laws in 1971 so that if you are in college, you are not exempt. they only have to wait til the end of you current semester before they take you.

okay, so i was partially right. it's unconstitutional to reinstate the draft in times of peace. however, it is constitutional to draft only men. (Rostker v. Goldberg) hehe. also if you want to avoid being drafted just announce that you're gay.

I know that I wouldn't want to be forced into fighting iraq for this. I don't feel that iraq has the capabilities to attack the states. isreal yes. I don't feel that bush has provided enough evidence for attacking iraq. If the weapons inspectors find anything I can say no more. And the attack on Iraq never really stopped. Its just not called war right now.
