im looking to get a new video cam and im curious as to what people have. i want something that i can easily carry in a backpack while skiing, but something that also has good quality. any ideas on whats out there?
depends how much you want to pay. I would strongly recommend an optura 10 or 20 from canon, you can find them on ebay probably for not too much, and they are known to have very good color and quality for their price, and are small.
If it's just shooting your friends to watch at home, and you're not an aspiring filmmaker, then get any old DV camera that's small and affordable. Get a screw on wide angle lens for it and you'll be stoked.
If you're serious about filming and have an edit system and all that, then you'll be looking at a used VX2000 or other 3chip camera with that sub $1000 budget.
yeah, im looking for something to just get started with making movies. i have experience with editing, but not with the camera portion. im thinking maybe max, $500 for the camera. whats the thought?
If it's $500 then you're looking for something used that has a lot of controls and 3chips, or new you will only get a 1chip point and shoot equivalent. The little Sony's are decent, and make sure you buy another battery and a wide angle lens.
