it does not cause violnce. most kids dont play a video game and go hey i wonder if i shoot my freind int he head if they will show up in school tomorrow like the next level when they come back. give them more credit. they arnt stupid. however voilence in movies, games, art, tv., desenitises (sp) kids and people in general to violence, so it does not seem like as much of a big deal, and that is a problem.

Punky2899 is correct. We have been studying the media's influence on children of today in my psychology class for a while now. Children, as well as anyone, who are shown images of violence, death, crime, etc. become immune to it's severity. If you want to read a cool book that incorporates this "conditioning" read Alduous Haxley's "Brave New World." In this story kids are desensitized to death.

The answer is that art influences attitudes, and a change in attitudes can effect a change in behaviour. But that doesn't mean the artist is RESPONSIBLE for this, he is "to blame" for his art affecting the way people think, but they are responsible for the actions that change leads them to take.
Hope that made sense.

Basically your whole post is an oxymoron. So watching a movie will cause violence, but actually doing the shooting in a video game doesn't? Get real, blowing people away in a video game DEFINATELY has the same effect on a child as a hollywood hero shooting the bad guy between the eyes. Sure there are some kids out there that are just plain crazy. Watch Chris Rock's Bigger and Blacker. It approaches this matter in a quite comical yet serious approach.

i didnt say there is a diff between games and movies....all im saying is they do not cause kids to be violent....it desensitises kids to it...which means like makes it seem like not a big deal..and not a concern..and that is dangerous.

little kids, yes. anyone who has half a brain who is older then 13, NO! Parenting and how you were brought up (if you have decent parents) helps too.

I just watched a movie today where some kids were shown a video of a woman beating up a doll, then the kid was left in a room with the same doll. The kid proceeded to kick its ass, in the exact same way the woman had. We watched a bunch of other realated stuff as well and I'm convinced that TV violence has some effect on people, it just depends on who you are.

the thing that I don't get about violence and video games is that when they say "the children who shot up their school played doom" it makes it look like doom did it. but when you really look at it, almost every kid in America has played violent video games, and I don't see them killing their friends

did it have a control group of kids who didnt watch the video and were placed in the room with the doll ?

You really don't need to explain to me what desensitize means. I know the definition quite clearly. I misread your post, my bad. It is just one of the many factors that causes violence in our society. Is there really more violence today then there was when everyone owned a gun and matters were solved in duels? (sarcasm) That's really the question. The world today makes it seem like everything is so much worse. It actually is better off. The pollution is so much better then it was 20 years ago. Violence will never be riddled of human nature. It will ALWAYS be there.

there are total differnces in the goals of certain cultures, look at China, the youths there are caught up in the expansion of China and university attendance is up as well as people majoring in engineering, sciences, and medicine. Black culture really seems to revolve around hip hop and sports, which in no way can sustain all the black people in this country. The things that are portrayed in rap are emulated. Instead of wanting to be doctors, or something of substance, a lot of african-americans only see that their wealthy and extravigant counterparts are really only musicians and sportsmen. Now how many rappers or sportsmen can there be at one time, its a limited market with low numbers.

Personally I don't art influences violence. a normal person would see it as an expression of emotion, the psycho's are the ones who look at it and say I'm going to kill someone. Not arts fault it is the person's fault
