Avi files on mac?

i just dl a movie onto my computer and it says it is an avi file. how do i get this to play. quicktime pops up by the creen is just white. i have quicktime pro, is there something else i need.

divx isnt compatible with the os x mac system. anything else i could try, it wont work for windows media player for mac. it says it should be able to run on quicktime

VLC plays avis. You can also get DivX Doctor II to translate DivX stuff into mpeg. Takes a while though.

yeah i downloaded vlc, it works way good. and some mpg's that wont work play on there, too.
