Beginner...

when i switched back in the 7th grade, i felt the same way. but freestyle skis are really easy to ski on. they behave like ski boards, are extremely agile under your feet, and precise. it took me 2 runs to get back in the groove for longer skis. but you can do everything that you did on skiboards on freestyle skis, no problem, except maybe trees.

so don't worry. they're easy.

its kinda like riding a bicycle, you may be a bit rusty, but it will all come back really quickly.

yeah its alot easier than most people think. It took me 3 or 4 runs to get the feel for skis. I took a different look at it tho because i let that fear get the best of me. I went from skiboards to the 142 mike nick, then a 168, now im on a 178. I regret the shorter lengths and wish i would jumped right up into normal lengths right away. You'll be fine,.

patty and scratch guy gave really good advice, ive been skiing for pretty much forever ( i had a little fling with snowboarding but lets just pretend that never happened )

it happens... haha, i did too but skiing was just more fun for me. it came back real quick but on the other hand i was only trying the boarding thing for a season.

you said you have been skiboarding (i assume you mean, as i call them, snowblades) for like 4 years right? i had a pair once, used em for like 1/2 a season then went back to my reg. skis, but in my experience, on my long skis (which i now have a 177) i felt way more stable and in control then on my skiboards. it may take a day or two to get back in the swing of skiing, but like the others said, its like riding a bike, it'll come right back

It all depends on a lot of things. You'll have a much harder time ajusting to longer sticks. So if i were you i'd start out your first year on someing a little shorter. Depending on how big you are, i'm just going to guess something around 160-165. But you might be just a little dude and need something in the mid to high 150s. My advice would be to learn to actually ski this year. Then next year you can get longer sticks and progress. Then next year you'll have something for rails. Now this is all assuming that you have the money for a new pair. Otherwise just buy to your size now and put up with the change.

You're going to have to get used to a lot of things. No longer can you just turn your foot to change direction. And you sure as hell better use poles and learn to use them right. Some people might say the change is easy. I've been on skioards a few times and i can tell you that the overall form and technique is different from skiing. Then when you get in the park you'll find that even spins are harder, because you just don't throw your wobbly arms around at the lip and do a 360.

But i'm glad to see we're starting to convert these people.

you will pick it back up no problem bro, it might take you a while to get used to the tricks, but you need to start off small and get used to long skis again

I sounded like an ass up there, but i was in the same situation as you skied as a kid but then stopped and jumped into ns, it took like a few days just to get the feel back, but now its all good

I switched back to skiing from snowboarding and it took no longer than a few runs to get back into it.

Even if it takes you a season to get the basics no big deal. You'll be a stronger skier if you have the basics down, and build a base.
