The small gap where rails are put together.

I'm in college now in a city and so far i've been walking around campus scoping out some cool rails i'd like to do an urban session on. But some of the rails have these fucked up little gaps like where the pieces were put together. Like were only talking like 1/8 inch gaps, but i'm just thinking what that would be like sliding. If you hit that i'd think you take a mad face plant forward. Also some of them have rust spots on them too. i'm just wanding what you urban vets do to bypass this. Or would you not attempt these at all?

bring some heavy grit sandpaper to get rid of the rust, but it takes some time.

About the gaps idk what to tell you. exactly how big are they. Exactly 1/8 of an inc, because people's scale of inches can be wayyy off when it is that small of a gap, but it depends how big it is

I forgot to mention that I've only done nice park rails before. i'm totally new to urban.

I went and put a quarter in the gap to get a relative idea. I think about 2 maybe 3 quarters could fit on edge in the gap.

ok so it's bigger than 1/8th of an inch.

Idk man thats a pretty big gap. You could try and fill it with soemthing u know. Idk, seems kind sketchy

as long as the rail doestn go up within the plane a gap that small will not matter, just be light on your feet.

thats what i say. buff out the rust with some sandpaper and that should take care of that. but id say just hop the gap. or just lift each foot for a second when you get near it, kind of like how you'd ollie a skateboard.

gaps are sketch, use your best judgement. slide a ski on the rail using your hands, if it hangs up really badly, don't slide it.

^yea what he said, I slid some rails with amssive missing art and everything was ok
just make sure the ski can slide on it before actually jumping onto the rail

a file takes down rust really good, if u dont hop the gab ur prolly eat shit and it will leave a massive gash in ur ski and/or possibly take out part of an edge, ive dont it before on my summer set up

you could get a wedge of wood and hammer it in there, then file it down so there is no longer a gap. or get some lead and a blow torch and seal that fucker up

you might be able to fill it with some wax if you are really worried, just melt some in with a lighter, it'll take about 1 min

cat little peieces of pvc pipe and put wedges on each vertical part to keep it flush with the rail. i love pvc

Hey man, i did an aluminum rail with the same type of gaps, like the structure of the rails like the inside metal connects but the rail itself does not right? well u should be fine cause i had one that was like a good inch wide and i never felt it but then again i had edgless skis on cause of the aluminum...

It's probably like, $4 a pack. Pretty cheap, any hardware store should have it.
