its good all mountain skiing, but not a good park/pipe, untill after the snowboardin comp in march,i know for a fact, i have been skiing there my whole life
I went with my school last year to whiteface,, we went right before the Snowboard cup, It was really icy, there is no such thing as a park there, and the slides weren't open because it was just ice and they had no snow last year. But the runs are pretty nice.
i heard they had alot of snow already...as in someone skied there the day before someone skied tucks...but this is all heresay so im not sure...so go skiing their now
you guys must be joking right? First of all, whiteface is in NEW YORK! They don't even have good "all-mountain" skiing. If you look at their trail map, it says they have a few runs of 'Ungroomed wilderness skiing'! WOW. i really wish i could ski some of that ungroomed wilderness terrain. I guess if you LOVE ice and if you try to pretend really hard that you are having a good time, then i guess it is an alright mountain.
i went to whiteface with my school last year, and was dissapointed with the skiing. it was ridiculously icy and the park did not impress. but the pipe had been cut recently for some snowboard comp, so that was sick. also, lake placid is a pretty cool town and the mountain is fucking huge.
k yo whiteface isent that bad man. the cloudsplitter gondola is never packed and the lift to the top is sick. ive never waited in line and i go 10 times a year and i ski at the top a lot. for the prak, besides the roller coaster rail, nothing much. as everyone said go afetr the snowbaoring
oh mannn.. whiteface can be amazing and it can be terrible.. it's a love hate type of deal. where 90% of the season leans towards the hate. if you catch it at just the right time: spring park after the snowboard cup, one day of slides opening two years ago, spring conditions on a decent table in december last year, sessioning a flat box with your friends, and best of all.. watching people huck and die on ice.. it can be your best friend.
last year it was pretty good skiing wise, but the park was wicked weak, one rail, rollercoaster box where half of it wasnt covered(so it was unhittable) and then the kids park
word is whiteface is going to be stepping up their park this year, one of my friends said that he heard they are going to have a new c rail and some other stuff
hahah last year on the website it said they had some new c box that they werre gonna put in and never put it in whiteface sucks plain and simple just got to vt
Well, because none of you seem to know whiteface that well, and I ski there 50+ days a year, I'll give you the low down. Every year they let slip that something new and exciting is going to happen with the park. This year, it's likely to happen, Mike Kershner is no longer park director and the new park director, Aaron Kellet, is more likely to get shit done. I know him personally, so I have some faith in him. Look for a repositioned pipe, It'll be steeper so maybe we'll get more than 4 or 5 good hits. Hopefully some new rails and boxes. And bigger jumps. Now, keep in mind, this is a state owned and operated mountain so things can happen pretty slow.
As for the conditions, yeah, some trails get really icy, but hell, it's the east. If you know the mountain well, you know where to avoid. If you don't, hook up with a local and try to keep up. We know how to have fun. Well, that's enough sticking up for my home mountain. Peas.
Gore and whiteface are owned and operated by the same organization, so it is probably incorrect to say that gore is getting a lot of whiteface's money. ORDA is just investing their money in a way as to produce the best return on investment. Gore is located closer to a higher population density, less travel time, more people, more money to invest into both mountains. But whiteface is still pretty popular so I don't think they are going to let it go to shit. But those are just my speculations.
