DRM protection on MP3 files

I have a WMA. It is not supposed to be protected. It's actually a demo track of only vocals. I assume the person who ripped it from CD and emailed it to me left copy protection on or something like that. She's not exactly computer literate, so I'm stuck trying to get it to work. It's silent in VLC, and doesn't work at all on WMP for Mac OS X. Here's the message I get trying to make it play in windows media player in windows:
"This is a protected song that requires a license key (available online). A preview may be available, or you may be asked to purchase the song directly."

I remember reading some where, that if you burn it as an audio cd then rip it back it will work. I forget but it was something along the lines of that. I'll look around and see if I can find something to make it work.

I'm not sure if there are burning programs that will read and burn a copyright-protected WMA file
