Well, here's a hint... there are 2 different ways that you could spin switch to the left, even though in a comp it would be called the same trick, they are completely different in how you take off. Same goes for switch right. So there are 2 forward variations, and 4 switch variations,= 6
I'll give you a minute to try and figure it out first. I love keeping people in suspense.

Try switch blindside spinning sometime (come in looking left, but spin right), It feels like another trick, so that's why I said 6

tride, i wouldn't call that a 'different' kind of spin. I'd call that someone who needs to learn how to look over the proper shoulder coming into a jump switch. Now if you had been talking about carve 3s or cork 3s, I might have agreed.
And no, I've seen quite a few of our 'best' female skiers riding and have never seen anyone throwing something all four ways. A girl who can throw all four 360s isn't bad, but I won't be too stoked until I see a chick toss a sick switch right 5.

on another note i actually find switch blindside easier than reg switch cause it helps more with setting the spin.

Ok, so imagine you want to learn to spin switch in the halfpipe, and want to spin down-pipe. Now would you rather learn blindside take off, or try to come across the pipe switch looking over the uphill shoulder (very awkward and unstable).
And there are some people who prefer spinning switch blindside and are very good at it, can do sick switch 1080 etc. Now maybe that's someone who "needs to look over the proper shoulder" or maybe it's a case of someone doing something different, yet still sick.
It's just another skill to learn, and that's a good thing in my opinion, go try all 6 360s one day, you will probably have fun.

Sure, in terms of what the spin will be called there are only four ways. A switch right 5 will be called that regardless of if you take off blindside or not. And judges would not call them different tricks either.
But in PRACTICE....they are pretty damn different ways to take off, and like I said, if you want to figure out how to spin switch down the wall in pipe, you might want to give it a try.

Don't rip on girl skiiers all the pro girls are better then 95% of this site and that is a fact. There are girls who rip and there are girls who suck same with guys, the sport just hasnt expanded enough yet to catch the inteset of the female skiier, give it a little while and we we'll have some michelle wie-ass skiing with the guys

i can slide both ways. i didn't know what way was more natural, so i just did it both ways. Now i am more dominant sliding with my right foot forward mostly.

IMO spinning all 4 ways ain't much - it's when you can make it look good and relaxed (take pollard for example - i don't even know which way is natural for him). so far i have seen sarah burke do good natural 7s n such, but her unnatural spins aren't lookin so hot. leskinen always looks unnatural...

i can spin threes unnatural, not fives yet though. unnatural is leftside for me though. and not to toot my own horn but last season i stunned myself when i figured out how to slide both ways too. but when i slide left foot forward i can't do much else just the basic slide-the-rail-and-ski-away

How would it ever help my skiing if I can come in switch looking over both shoulders in the direction I'm spinning? Sure there are people who do it, but thats just because it's a comfort thing for them, not because it's "harder" or a new skill. I could never imagine anyone intentionally looking over opposite shoulder that knows how to look over either.
So to sum it up, yes there are people who do it, but I don't think they do it because they want to, it's just how they learned. A switch "blindside" three is the same exact thing as a normal switch 3.
