Replying to PVC vs. Metal

Im building a 15 ft straight rail and I already have the wood for the supports and stuff, so now I just need a grinding surface. I was thinking either a peice of flat metal or two small PVC pipes.
I dont realy like PVC because I think that it doesnt feel exactly like sliding metal(because it is less slipery and your edges can dig in..etc..)but it cost way less than metal.
Metal is more expensive, but I think it slides way better and I could re-use it next season for like a down rail or something.
I dont know wich one to pick, so help me out here.
