Murder rates in the US

I just saw a thing in the newspaper that showed very us state, and how many people were murdered in each state last year. Alaska had almost 200 more murders than California or New York. crazy. Washington D.C. had twice the murders of the entire state of California

I think vermont has the highest rate of kids killing their parents. either that or its highest total rate of murder...It was o n some cnn show a couple years ago

Abortion actually did cause the crime rate to drop in the United States, but not because it limited the number of black kids. It just reduced the number of unwanted children, who are the most likely to turn to crime. Some young economist at U Chicago did a study on it a couple years ago.

It's actually not in Freakonomics, though that book is sweet. He published several papers on the subject. I think it was too controversial to put in the book.

Alaska is a big state though... And filled with a bunch of eskimos and shit. So I don't doubt those numbers at all; if anything that's just the count of bodies they have recovered so far from the frozen tundra.

no actually alaska is the "most depressed state" the weather is always shitty there so people have more of an urge to go crazy...they also have the most legally insane people

There is no way the number of murders in AK was greater than California or whatever.

Do you know what the actually murder rate would be? It would be unbelieveable. It would be like 1 in 10 were murder (obviously an exageration).

As far as cities go, Chicago usually has the most number of murders and New Orleans had the highest rate.

The list for murder rate in 2002 was such.

(1) Washington, DC 45.8
(2) Detroit 42.0
(3) Baltimore 38.3
(4) Memphis 24.7
(5) Chicago 22.2
(6) Philadelphia 19.0
(7) Columbus 18.1
(8) Milwaukee 18.0
(9) Los Angeles 17.5
(10) Dallas 15.8

citied like New Haven, Newark, St. Louis, and a bunch more also have pretty high murder rates.
