Bouldering

Ok. So for all of us that have not got any snow yet (east coast), is anyone still climbing out there? I like free climbing also but bouldering is great because its cheap and there are rocks close by. So who all is a climber here. I hear alot about biking on this site, which i also enjoy, but not much on climbing.

Holla. There isn't any snow in LCC still, so you can still go boulder at the mouth of the canyon.

I used to love climbing, and then I tore my ACL real bad at the end of the season, so I was out for the summer. I never really got back into it though... maybe next summer.

I've been bouldering for the past year but now im starting to get into sport routes. I did soem free soloing as a kid if little shit (some of them more like scrambles I guess) but I getting pretty stoked got my first v5 last tuesday and my first 5.10D last week.

I climb at my local gym, and the high school season is starting up, so I'm getting ready for that.
I finished off last season with 5.11's and 5.12's, and will hopefully finish this one with pure 12's, unless they throw some 13's in there as well.

Really fun stuff! I've been climbing at a great boulder centre in Helsinki twice now and even then the progression is never far away. I got my first 6a yesterday, although it seemed easier than some 5s. I also noticed that I have a serious case of vertigo.

Any good tips to strengthen your fingers for the tiny holds?

Just gotta say that I'm a noob when it comes to using your legs. I just can't seem to get a grip (no pun intended) on how to wrap yourself around some routes that really require footwork over anything else.

Look up a hangboard or whatever they're called. nevermind

buy one of those and hang it in your place, use different holds and variations of holds to do pullups.

I don't think my walls will have none of that, haha. I did try similar fingerboard stuff at the centre, just wide enough for maybe the first two ligaments of your fingers to grab, with bad results. I can do a shitload of pullups but this fingerhold shit is hardcore for me.

Take a wooden rod, like a broom handle or something, secure a rope in the middle.(about 2 feet in length, or uh less than a meter) hang a weight at the end of the rope. Use your hands to roll the piece of wood and wind up the rope, kind of like turning the throttle on a dirtbike. This is a great workout for just your forearms.

Or I guess you could just step up your masturbation schedule.

Either way fingers are directly linked to the forearm.

I'd say you should go to a gym that has hang board sessions. I can never use the hang board by myself, but when I'm around people and there's a lot of positive energy, it really helps.

I'm getting back in to climbing after taking a long break... I used to be able to do 5.10's and v3's and I'm just starting to get back into the swing of things again. Lately I've been doing up to v2's and 5.8's. All indoors by the way
