I think it was my third allman brothers concert when they played franklin's tower. It was awazing. I love the dead. And people who are obsessed with Garcia, who i agree is one of the greatest guitrarists ever, dont really know the dead. I truly miss the voice of PigPen.

I really don't like comes a time. To muddy and loose. No one really connected. I'd take the phil and trey/page shows over that anyday. How many dead shows does everyone have? I got around 60.

My dad partied with them (he's going to be 67 in September) - they apparently had this barn house thing down the street from where my dad was at up in Northern Cali, Jerry was only 18 or 19 then, and they were all crazy as fuck around 11pm - my dad always laughs and said he left about that time, he wasn't into the drugs other than the occasional toke like everyone at the parties. He's got some stories... heh.

I've always had trouble with people comparing both.
I'm a huge fan of both. But i have a lot of trouble saying which one is better. I never saw the dead, im too young, but ive seen Furthur and i've done tour with phish.
Every jam band is different, and i must admit, both of these bands are amazing!!
But any ways, i'll be on phish tour this summer, then heading out West to catch some good Furthur!

I'm a fan of them and most Jam bands, but I've only started listening to that stuff within the last year so I don't know that much yet. Its also kind of lame that people think you have to be high to enjoy it.

no. Trey Anastasio and Phish are what came after Jerry died and The Grateful Dead was no more. they are the successors of the Dead, but can not and will not surpass them.

Phish didn't come after Jerry died in 95. Phish was a great band when they started 30 years ago and still are. The only thing that changed when Jerry died was that at that same moment, phish was peaking and playing amazing music, which made the scene switch from the dead to phish. All dead heads and followers left for phish tour and thats how phish popularity all started.
