SO...i was looking thru posts, and i couldnt find anything about the 1080s, is nobody buying em this year? I went to the ski club meeting last night at my university, and the president told me i should get 1080s over the PE's, what do you guys think about that?

I think there is a big stigma about them because they do not have a wood core like the rest of the skis...they really are decent skis....I personally just think they flex out faster than wood core skis

not many people like the 1080s because they have a foam core that deteriorates after like 2 years, then the flex in the ski is all loss.

Freeskier had the Gun Lab as one of their top pics of the year. I have heard of the foam core breaking down, but you're gonna destroy any park ski in two years anyway.

and to answer the mans question, the foil is a very good pick for all mountain. the pe is also a good choice along with some others. but you cant go wrong with those two choices.

The only problem with the Foil (and also a lot of other twins) is that "all mountain" twins now are pretty fat 85mm+ which makes them suck for bumps...If you don't care about bumps, go for the Foils, PE's or Scratch.

the chronic blows! holy FUCK!!! i tried a pair of those things out and theyre sick for whipping around little turns in the bumps and trees and mabye tossing your shit around on some metal, but when you go to set a turn or do anything that requires a little power underfoot these skis are just like BAH WE SUCK!!!

^what are you talking about. i have skied my chronics for 1 and a half seasons and have been very happy with them. fist of all the core is almost unbeatable. i have ridden these skis hard(and i am not just talking about hitting rails,i have skied these things hard all mountain too)and the core still has tons of stiffness and pop. second the edges have held together amazing. i have never owned a ski that have had edges that dont round out completely. i understand that everyone has different opinions about skis but i dont understand how you could dis on the chronic.
the 1080 is a ski that could use some critisism. salomon is still a skis companie that refuses to try now things, and incorporate new technology. except for the LAB series(that cost aroung 1,000 dollars) the 1080 still uses the same basic core that the very first ones had. the only difference is the space frame crap which is just the same foam flattened out on the edges a little bit.
i am definately not saying that salomon makes bad skis, i am simply stating that it would be cool to see large ski companies take some risks and come out with some cool NEW products, not just the same ski with different graphics.

honestly, they aren't that durable. 30 days and they feel like noodles. i've skied 60 on my pe's and they feel brand new, with the exception of the edges.

i had 1080's and even before they wore out they were shitty, they just dont ski good, then after like a month the core wears out and it gets even worse.

wow...that was probably the most poorly written post i have ever seen on NS. and that is truly saying alot...
ne way, if ur thinkin the foils vs the PE, also think about the scratch fs and the karma. all good skis tho.

best all mountain skis are the PE, the chronic wide, the karma, and the kehua (too wide for all mountain in the east). These all have stiffer flexes and fatter waists that can handle pow and crud, but are not too fat (85,86,88,92).

Salomon's are fine, I just wouldn't reccomend the 1080s for aggressive off trail skiing, cause they suck in that. for park they are fine.

or you could get last yrs cr pro lab, it has wood core and shit, and its a hella solid ski.
gotta show respect towards salomon, they make good aggressive skates also

which has nothing to do with anything regarding skis or skiing. salomon has a seriously weak line up of skis, they need to fix that before we all start showing respect. there's way to many choices out there for them to get away with their lazy ass atempt at a freestyle lineup. i can't imagine anyone would rather be on Guns than the numerous other brilliant fat twins out there, or on Foils rather than all the other choices.

I'm gonna try out my new Foils this Sunday at an Austrian Glacier and see how they pull off!
Later!

The CR does not have a wood core. It's PU Foam wrapped in a monocoque composite (extra fibreglass). Still, it's a better performer than the current crop of 1080's, and the vast majority of twins I've tested.
It's just the "way" of this forum to hate on Salomon, MSP, and Jonny Moseley...
