very true. although I guess Gray matter is still touring. I dont see the relation, but it has been said in many placed that Gray Matter and Fugazi influenced alot of emo today.
The Mars Volta and Co & Ca are def. not emo. Anyone who protests that Co & Ca are emo, has no idea what they are talking about. They don't sing about how bad their heart hurts because of some chick.
how about you fuckers who say that emo is only whining about how much you miss your girlfriend pick up some real emo like rites of sping, moss icon, heroin, indian summer? listen to that then tell me how much emo is gay. you stupid fuckers have absolutely no clue what emo music is today, all that underoath and silverstein shit is pop punk. emo is dead, just like punk rock. all this shit today just doesn't compare. stop being assholes and inform yourselves before you jump to conclusions. and yes, i think that all those emo kids you see today are trendy pop-punk whores who don't know what emo is.
foreget it man. that new music you mentioned is called emo, just like the "punk" that you say makes punk dead, is unfortinatly called punk. emo is alive, it just became very shitty. punk, in its true form is alive, you just need to know where to look.
this is such a stupid thread. the responses are just a kid naming something and then a few people fighting over it.
ugh my favorite band's more recent stuff is pretty much emo in some aspect of the classification. but hey, for some reason, all their music really appeals to me. saves the day. the stuff off of "stay what you are" is probbaly their best, but the unreleased stuff off of their most recent b sides cd,ups and downs, is pretty decent if you are looking for emo. like "hold" and "im sorry im leaving". bright eyes has "saturday as usual" which could be the most emo song ever.
i dont know about motion city soundtrack. i really like them. i think they are experimental pop punk. fuck it, its about girls. MCS is a good band though. "the future freaks me out", "make out kids", "capital H", and "my favorite accident" are good. you should listen to those tracks to decide if you like them. oh and "lets get fucked up and die" is good too
Hey, did you fuckers know that you can listen to emo music, but not live the emo lifestyle?! Bunch of morons, stop making fun of people and let the live thier lives.

I realize that lots of these bands are not true emos and they are not about sliting their wrist, but they're popish punk, which lots about people think is emo but its not.
